O Gauge Trains - Scale VS Semi-Scale

Good simple breakdown of the two. As I learned when we got started with O-Gauge… scale is scale, you always know what you’re gonna get. But semi scale is literally just any other size. And as I’m someone who likes uniformity, that was tricky when collecting the smaller stuff at first!!

Great video Chris, I had two semi scale stack cars from MTH but I after running them once with a full scale locomotive it really looked silly so I returned them to the store. You're right though if ones focus is on semi scale those cars would be fine. Thanks for another great and informative video.

Thanks for showing the difference. My 4 by 8 layout is all 0-31. The majority of locomotives and rolling stock is postwar or postwar remakes. Perhaps you can compare Lionel 6464 boxcars to standard O and scale.

The 1/48 vs 1/52 or 1/64 what ever semi scale is is like over sized looking in video. Maybe because, used to the typical size of Lionel trains from all the previous years. Besides the space requirements for scale true 1/48 scale is just too much real-estate. Many persons mix all the semi and scale with the postwar size and have no issues doing so. Personally I wanna keep with post war “O” & 027 size because of the real estate and cost issues. Nice presentation😊

This is part of the reason I am happy I switched down to back HO. Able to acquire Scale items with scale detail for a more affordable price. That said if you were to model a prototype location what location would that be and why?

Does anyone make semi-scale O-gauge in Scotland? In the United Kingdom? In Europe? 3-rail? 2-rail? AC? DC? Windup (clockwork)? Battery powered?

I'm building a layout and want 2 put a second story on it with mountains on the corners how tall and wide should I leave the openings for the tunnel portals for that scale model 2 navigate through?

Depends on what you have
