How does the actual controller feel when playing say Smash? Especially in a tournament setting where your hands may start to sweat, how does that impact the controller's paint?

I’m also curious. I recently customized one of my controllers but it feels sticky after a bit of play, even with a coat of semi-gloss varnish applied

The controller high several coats of Clear Gloss so the paint (artwork) does not get impacted. Unless you are rubbing the controller on concrete it should last for a long time.

If the clear is completely dry it should not be sticky. Try wiping it down down to get it as clean as possible, then add a small amount (tiny dot) of car polish to make it smooth and polish it with a small cotton cloth. This will make the controller nice and smooth and will prevent hand oils from sticking to it. The custom controller should be wiped and maintained every so often depending on the amount of use.

Hi Ernie! Your controllers are amazing! :) I recently started airbrushing controllers as well but I'm having trouble because when I scratch the paint it comes right off. Right now, I'm sanding with 1,500 grit by hand and applying Createx 4050 before applying paint. I also mix a little bit into the paint and finally use it as a top coat. The paint continues to come off however. Do you have any tips for me? Thanks so much!

Try using something more course like 400 grit or something around that grit. Im also using AutoBorne Sealer directly on the plastic as a primer. I would definitely clear coat the controller afterwards. The 1500 grit is way to fine, that grit is mostly used for getting rid of orange peel on your clear coat.

@@ErnieHernandezdesigner Great! Thank you for the pointers I'll try that grit. Also what clear coat do you recommend? I know a lot of people like the 2K clear but I was wondering if you had a preferred clear that I could spray with an airbrush and not a spray can? Thanks so much :)

@@monicavilla6865 the restoleum 2x clear is really good. the 2k is good too, but works best when doing many controllers because it will harden on you after you pop the bottom.

Does painting it change the texture any for the controller?

yes, it becomes smooth. Similar to a cars paint job.
