Custom Supercharged K10 Firewall Fabrication - LT4 Swapped Chevy Squarebody Ep. 3

Жыл бұрын

This week we're knocking out some of our final fabrication before we tear this lifted Chevy K10 squarebody down even farther for paint! This supercharged LT4 K10 is getting all the swiss cheese holes in the frame plugged up, and while we're there welding, we're also going to measure out and fabricate our King Shocks bump stop mounts that came in our ORD kit! We're not stopping there with frame work either. Our front shock hoops are blocking the best path for our steering shaft, so we're knocking out a chuck from the hoop, and reinforcing it so we can have the best steering angle to turn the massive tires that are going on this off road K10! The cab of the squarebody is getting worked on this episode too, with some custom sheet metal for the fire wall. All the awkward bumps, divets and holes in the original firewall just didn't look up to par for the truck we're building. So we're breaking out the cutting wheel and going to town taking out pieces of this cab. The new bead rolled metal not only gives the front of the cab a much sleeker look, but also adds back in the rigidity we removed when cutting away all the bracing and brackets. By the end of the episode, we have this off road ready, lifted, supercharged, angry K10 squarebody ready to be stripped down for paint. So make sure to like and subscribe so you don't miss this Chevy getting painted, polished, and put back together one last time!

Nicest square body build on the you Tube! great video, I like that you show the trials like putting a bead into a piece and then how you hammered it out and redid the bead on the same piece rather than scrapping it!!

Now that is what experience does for a job! Installing that plate and marking the holes before cutting out the section with the holes. GENIUS! 👍😁 4:20 Plugging all the holes in the frame is a nice touch. As usual! 😁 The job is coming together nice!👍

I hope you intend to connect the front shock hoops. Also, consider reinforcing the weld down the frame rail for the panhard bar bracket. I have the same kit and desert roads, off-roading, and 5 years of driving left me with a crack on that weld as well as a tear in the frame just in front of the bracket. Great work, guys!

Thanks for the heads up! The entire frame is getting a once-over with all the welds before it gets broken down for paint. Sometimes we can't finish ALL the work before the episode has to go out, just because we want to make sure that we can get these videos out to you in time! Thanks for all the support! Hope you keep following along with the build

I personally think those front shock loops look like a weak point they should have been bent to a 90 angle on the ends and put through a hole in the chassis legs so the load was carried by both sides of the chassis rail , in double shear . Although like most big money custom builds it will probably never get driven so most likely it wont matter . I do however think it looks sick !
@SalvagetoSavage
@SalvagetoSavage Жыл бұрын
That's a good point! It's definitely going to be driven off road, just not absolutely thrashed. We're lucky to have Andrew in the shop who cut his teeth in the off road industry in his early days of building cars and trucks. We're pretty confident in the set up, but we'll see once it's out on the trails!

Why not do a 2-piece steering shaft instead? Also, usually those shock hoops have a removable crossmember that goes over the engine.
@SalvagetoSavage
@SalvagetoSavage Жыл бұрын
The shock hoop is coming in another episode! And we would rather have a single piece steering column rather than jointing a two piece at a weird angle. We did some mock ups and that was our best option!
