a better way to sand it down is to super glue sandpaper to a flat surface and slowly rub the object on it til its smooth. You can use different grits as well. I would maybe start at 80 grit and go all the way to 600 grit or even more if you want it super smooth. Also when it comes to finishing it s better to first sand off all the old finish then spray on a few coats of primer. After the primer cures you can spray on the coats of green til you get the color you desire. Add the details and then lock it in with a clear coat. You can buy custom nameplates online and there is also probably a way to make them yourself however I'm not to sure about that.

Little clever idea use a small four wheel chassis and use a ertl body of the narrow gauge engine and hope it fits

What if u got modelling puddy and remove the back and front magnets, then use the puddy to extend the chassis and place the magnets back, Then buy a special funnelled Peter sam, to not have to make the custom again u add blue tack and make the smoke box removable, and u can switch the smoke boxes when u need them, if one smoke box is to big get another of the same smoke box (well this is getting expensive) then cut off the funnel, use the original funnel and glue it on so u have a better coupling system and a special funnel version u can place on when ever u want U could also add a paper print of the name plate and number, maybe put them on blue tack for Peter sam version and Stuart version

I personally prefer using Take N Play and Take Along for Narrow Gauge engines, while I use Wooden Railway for Standard Gauge engines. Mainly for scale accuracy.
