Custom Track Creator Plays Wave 3 of Booster Course Pass

Wave 3 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass DLC is easily the best wave we've had so far. I was very impressed by the clever ideas and workarounds from the Rock Cup and the Moon Cup and today I'll be sharing my thoughts about them!
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch received paid DLC containing 48 tracks from past Mario Kart games. The DLC was released at 1pm BST today. This wave contains Tour London Loop, GBA Boo Lake, 3DS Alpine Pass/3DS Rock Rock Mountain, Wii Maple Treeway, Tour Berlin Byways, DS Peach Gardens, Tour Merry Mountain, and 3DS Rainbow Road. This video contains early gameplay and time trial races for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 3.

No way it is. It's in my top 3 Wii tracks, but no way it's coming back. Because we are only getting 3 more Wii courses, and 2 have been datamined (DK Summit, Koopa Cape), and the last Wii course is the final track in the whole Booster Course Pass. And a leaker, who leaked Maple Treeway coming in wave 3, and got every track right for wave 2 and 3, said the final Wii couse is Mario Kart Wiis Rainbow Road. Good way to end it though. I wish it was coming.

Hey @NuoKart. They've added *Custom Items* select screen in this update. Pick *VS Race, Battles or certain Online Modes *(Friends and Rivals) and at Items, select Custom Items. Once you've what you want the races or battles set up, press *OK*. If you're in Teams, pick your team and press *OK*. After that, *Custom Items* Select Screen is what will pop up. You can have certain items turned on or off, or have the game randomly do the job. You can have Bullet Bill only races, races without the Lightning Item or the Coin, and in Battle... you can have just Feather and so forth. With the Random button, you can like use a *Random Number Generator* and press Random that number of times and deal with the items that the Number Generator gave you. If you're doing *Teams*, you can have items for *specific teams or both teams*. Once you've hit *OK*, the next screen is *Course Select* Screen. This feature is definitely *game changing*! If you're reading this, get the update and give it a shot! You'll get *Endless Enjoyment* out of *Custom Items*.

So ngl, with Peach Gardens, I was trying to get my Grand Prix races taken care of for 150cc, Mirror, and 200cc, and I ended up having tunnel vision with 150cc. I didn't notice the arrows or even notice the change on the map, so when Lap 3 came, I was like "WAIT WHAT!? Oh my God, this is AWESOME!!"

About you're point on the Half Pipe textures, doing this also puts you in anti gravity while doing the half pipes, which can allow you to spin off of another racer like usual anti gravity, I honestly couldn't care less about its texture, not having it look like tour actually works to its benefit.

mayro out of curiosity have you ever played sonic racing transformed? the game basically takes the route switching idea and goes completely insane with it thanks to the transforming vehicles, you've got stuff like dragon's lair, where on lap 1 you drive around a canyon with a river at the bottom, but in lap 2 a rockfall blocks the road so you have to jump into the river in boat mode, and in lap 3 a dragon breaks the bridge at the start forcing you to fly through the canyon in plane mode. There's also my personal favorite track ever conceived, burning depths, a track in an underwater secret base that's flooding, and each lap the water level gets higher which opens up new routes and makes you play what were previously car sections in boat mode, while an operator informs you of the situation over the radio and you jam out to a godlike remix of the burning rangers theme. Each and every track in asrt feels alive and with its own story going on in it, and despite the game having only 21 tracks compared to the usual mario kart's 36 it more than makes up for it in quality and variety, most asrt tracks have the equivalent of 2 or 3 normal tracks in them

Fun fact for DS Peach Gardens, this course is ironically very similar to Tour Paris Promenade. Even down to the music, both of them are in 3/4 time. Both Time Trial Ghosts for 150cc uses Peach and both have a straightway that leads to a circle formation.

I the city courses are kinda same-y because real cities are kinda same-y. I spent a day in London one day when I used to live in England and it just felt like I was spending the day in any other big city

Personal opinions (also dang, Double Dash fans are getting shafted): London Loop: I'm a fan of mazes and maze-like layouts, so already I was excited to see this one in action, and I can't say I was super disappointed. After a few watches though, the track did start to look a bit homogenous, but it still looks decently cool in its own right. I also feel like this was another track that was a "Tour test", so to speak. (Paris Promenade tested going backwards, Tokyo Blur tested going different paths in different laps, London Loop feels like it's testing path crisscrossing.) Someone in another person's comment section said that London Loop was "wasn't a track they'd hate playing, but wouldn't actively choose it either", and I think that's probably the best sum for this. (Although I don't own MK8 so I guess my opinion in that regard is null lol) Though something that really intrigues me is the red arrows at 0:31. You never go back into the marketplace again and there's nowhere that that path seemingly goes to (from what I can see anyways), so I have to wonder what that path was even for. (The only video I could find showed nothing down that street in Tour so I wonder why that was left open instead of being closed off by guard rails.) If anything all the Chain Chomps roaming around in Lap 3 is really cute, especially the one playing in the river. (I'm a sucker for Chain Chomps, okay?) Boo Lake: Most of this applies to Tour's version as well (since that came out first anyways and is pretty much 1-to-1 the same track), but I find Boo Lake very cute (which is funny considering it's supposed to be a spooky course). Just a quick tangent, I don't think it's very fair to say that they "copied" custom track creators by putting the anti-gravity section where it was, since considering this track was datamined to be in this game before it even made it to Tour, it's likely that that antigrav section was going to always be there anyways. (And since the only mechanical change from Tour's version to 8's was the inclusion of antigrav, they wouldn't really have any reason not to "give" Tour the track first, since it lacks anti-gravity. I also heard from somewhere that it's the Tour devteam that's working on the BCP, which would also explain why both the artstyle looks completely different than the base game and why no track up to this point has antigravity except for Sky High Sundae, which itself is completely antigravity and almost feels like an antigravity test track. (It also explains why most of the tracks in the BCP can seemingly quickly get added to Tour and vice versa.)) Anyways I love the details they brought over from Super Circuit, with the mansion in the background and the crooked trees. I've never actually thought about it before but it's very strange that in the original there wasn't actually a lake visible. (Off road is just a giant pit.) I also like that with the blue hue underwater and the dilapidated boardwalks it feels like they also brought some shades of Broken Pier as well. (Though now that I think about it, that ending section before lapping does seem a bit too similar to the Wii custom track's version of Broken Pier by xBlue98...) What I find interesting is that from the original version, they shrunk down the layout A TON. On one hand it cut out a lot of meandering straightaways that- looking back on it- tended to eat up a lot of track real-estate in Super Circuit. On the other hand though this makes seem VERY miniscule, and it almost feels like it ends before much even happens. (Part of me also wishes that they made some Boos carrying candles like in the original, but that was probably asking for a bit too much.) Aside from upsizing the course a bit, still a very solid course with a solid glow-up from its source material. Rock Rock Mountain: I never really thought that one ramp could add so much identity to the track, but after a few people brought it up I kinda miss it myself. I'd also criticize the graphics a bit. While 7's textures made it look cool (especially with the view gliding towards the forest), the simplified textures make the whole track look so much more boring. Kind of a shame because I think that glider section really gives the course a nice setpice, and without better textures it doesn't have the same effect anymore. Maple Treeway: Something something cannon is no longer scripted something. Funny that you mention the hole in the foliage; in each consecutive version of Maple Treeway the hole actually gets bigger. (In the original there was no hole, 7 there were 4 holes that sort of formed an X shape in the foliage, and in Tour the X is gone.) It's still funny that even after years of racers dashing through it the hole still isn't big enough to have people miss the foliage completely. (Plus if going through the foliage wasn't intentional/accounted for, they wouldn't have thought to add a particle effect for going through the leaves.) The way they did the half-pipe ramp is very... interesting. I'm surprised they didn't have direct way to impliment half-pipes in the MK8 engine, but their sort of "workaround" for it is pretty clever, if odd. A strange change is that the leaf piles no longer drop items (as of typing this out), which is a slight shame, but running into the piles is still fun nonetheless. I'd complain about the bouncy bridge being gone, but it was gone in 7, it was gone in Tour, it's no surprise it's gone here. Sad, but not surprising. Still the pretty track that it always was. I'll also disagree with you on the music. It does feel like it got a bit of "Coconut Mall" syndrome, in that the song does feel a step hollow from its versions beforehand (and I feel the same way about Rock Rock Mountain as well, to go back to that really quick). Berlin Byways: While London Loop felt like it started to seem less interesting as time went on (said only half a day later as someone who only watches other people play these tracks), Berlin Byways still scratches that "maze" itch for me with its layout. The track layout it such a freaking puzzle and I absolutely love it. (The fact that you pass by the Brandenburg Gate FIVE times in three laps is amazing.) The fact that you can run into other players that are far behind if you're far ahead is so chaotic and I am absolutely for it. Also, can we talk about the freaking BOP of a song? (Though the honks were... very off-putting.) Peach Gardens: I thought this was going to be the weakest track of the course, but I'm pleasantly surprised. Some more disagreements: The right side of the roundabout/fountain being closed off makes sense to me. While yeah it's a bit more streamlined, I've seen absolutely no one take that path in either DS or Wii in a casual race, and if no one is going there anyways then why even bother making that available to drive on? I'll also defend the decision to remove the awkwardly-placed flowerbeds before and after the hedge maze. I'd argue they didn't really add any difficulty or uniqueness to the track, it was more annoying than anything else imo (on a track that wasn't very interesting to begin with). Speaking of the hedge maze, I'm also a fan of how they did that as well. The original felt almost needlessly claustrophobic (even as a maze lover I have my limits) and the layout and accompanying visuals- or the lack thereof- didn't help that. I think this version trimmed it down enough (where you can't really call it a maze anymore) to where it's not super closed-in while still keeping the original idea behind the layout (and giving it a nice improvement on its visual). I'd also call smaller hedge maze being replaced by a circle around a Piranha Plant an improvement, even if I personally liked how that section looked and drove originally. Was not expecting them to pull a Paris Promenade in this track, and somehow that made this track like 5x better to me for some reason. Was also not expecting the glide over the hedge garden, that's also a very cool addition to the track. (Also if some of the footage I've seen is correct, you can actually fly through the bushes! Hi-five Luigi with your face! :D I still think it's one of the weaker tracks of wave 3, but definitely not bottom. Merry Mountain: This track... is just there. Don't get me wrong, I love the Christmas theme and the winter setting, and the train tracks is really cool. The track layout itself though is... just there. Barely a step above Sky High Sundae and not much else to it other than its theme. I didn't know about the super half-pipe (I don't play Tour either), but considering that it's something that was exclusive to this track even in Tour and 8 only JUST got normal half-pipes, I think asking for the super exclusive one would've been a bit much at this point. (Especially since one of the bigger reveals during the first trailer of Wave 3 WAS that we were getting half-pipes and that tracks were getting anti-gravity.) I dunno, I feel like this wasn't doesn't have much more than its theme. 3DS Rainbow Road: Holy heck what a makeover. The road looks absolutely stellar (pun entirely intended), and everything including the music got a massive step-up from 7... sorta. That complaint about it looking a bit empty? I can kind of explain why that is: since the road is translucent you can see a lot of the space under it (in both senses of the word). In that sense you can see the endless outreach of space all around your character, and that can be a bit visually monotonous, even if the road itself looks absolutely gorgeous. (Contrast 7's rainbow road where the road in question is solid and bright. It makes the track really pop, and makes it so that you're not just staring at stars and space the whole time.) Also, another BOP.

I do agree that this is the best one so far. My favorites are boo lake and merry mountain. I think they both look really pretty. Rainbow road 3DS was really nice too but I don’t like how they removed the sun at the end of the course when you’re going up the very vertical part. But yeah it is kind of empty and gives me space junk galaxy vibes. The city courses are generic, saying this as someone who hasn’t seen them before. But I liked London one the best out of the two because the layout is kinda crazy and you can’t complain about the Berlin music. Loved the wooper solo. I also liked the color of the road on the London track and the loose chain chomps are a cool surprise. Peach gardens is interesting and while I do like the route change, I don’t think it adds much to the course, though I like seeing Luigi on lap 3. I also think the course is just empty. I liked rock rock mountain the least because like you said I don’t think it looks good. I hate this booster course grass and the spin boost things at the end look awkward to me and apparently judging by your footage you get stuck on them in an awkward way. I completely forgot about maple treeway. I think it’s ok I guess. It is a fan favorite though so many people will be happy to see it.

Honestly I don't lke london loop either, is the most generic of all city tour tracks. Each one has at least one Small cool detail, london loop only had chain chomps, at least the remix with real guitars is cool but I think the song is too short for how long are this track And yes berlin sounds amazing

The amount of disappointment Nuokart felt when they removed the Rainbow Road shortcut. I felt that. They basically removed all shortcuts on that track.
