I’ve had to get to know how carbs works as I now own a bike with one. I used to hate them, but now that I understand how one works, I cant hate such a beautifully thing. And this explanation was just amazing, so helpful!

Nice clear explanation and animation to show air and fuel flows through the carb. Now I understand why my bike ran so badly below 3500rpm. Idle jets were partially clogged after the bike had sat a while and the fuel went stale. All cleared and running lovely now. Thanks for posting this video.

Incredible explanation! Just curious though, isn't this showing the function backwards from what it should be? It seems like the flow of fuel and air should be going from left to right as it seems the right side is where it bolts to the engine.

Awesome video/explanation. Now I'm wondering if the slide is controlled by vacuum, wouldn't this create poor low rpm response? I have this carb (cvk34) on an older non-running Kawasaki dual sport that I am restoring.
@CustomCez Жыл бұрын
It does, but it makes for a "softer ride " experience. I've also installed a mikuni carb where the slide is controlled directly by the cable and it makes for a much more aggressive ride

Hi Cez. I'm making a video showing the disassembly and cleaning of the carbs on my Hyosung (it had been parked in the garage un-started for 2 years). I plan to link to this video for an in-depth description of how CV carbs work. I'd like to use a still image of your diagram with red arrows/circles showing the locations on my front carb that were blocked with old fuel sludge. Is that acceptable? Thanks. -TWW

I installed a hsr42 on my 1995 springer softail 80” evo. The motor is stock with Vance & Hines short shots and an aftermarket air cleaner. I have a #20 pilot jet and #165 main jet. 2 turns out on the air fuel mixture screw. I’m having a hard time getting it to idle slowly and it seems like the bike gets hot. Originally it had a 160 main and 25 pilot jet and was blowing flames out exhaust at idle. Changing to the 165 and 20 has eliminated that and it revs without miss from idle on now problems just seems like it idles higher than with the original cv carb and seems to run hotter? Any advice on what I could try or change would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
@gavinnance44752 ай бұрын
so the butterfly or venturi should be completely closed for the idle since there is a separate flow of air and fuel. mine wont idle and i think this will help. im also curious about the choke. when i bought my bike i was told that the choke was needing to be pulled to a specific distance for it to engage and properly enrich the fuel mixture. when the choke is fully engaged it doesnt seem to raise the rpms of the idle- when the bike did start. it would take a lot of effort to start and wouldnt idle very well unless i applied throttle until the engine could sustain or until i found the sweet spot on the choke. how am i to fix the choke to where full joke means that the fuel flowing through the carb is full flow? im worried about taking the whole thing apart since parts are scarce for my motorcycle, however i am curious on how to make this thing run reliably.
@steelmilkjug4 жыл бұрын
So how far into the Throttle opening does the AFM screw affect mixture? Is it really just an Idle mixture adjustment or complete throttle range mixture adjustment?

Any info would be appreciated. I bought a 100scooter with only 700 miles. Runs and idles, but no power. When I took off cowling, discover the vac line from manifold disconnected from carb and blocked. When I reconnected it, it stalls and won't start until I remove the vac line, and then it goes back to running on the pilot jet. The vac line is the one that is supposed to work the slide.

Hello, good video:) Q: 06 sportster xl1200c Vance and Hines short shots, large performance air breather, 45 pilot jet - 190 Main jet. 2 turns out a/f screw. Not as smooth as I would like at steady throttle - a bit jerky. Been playing with it, seemed to have smoothed out with the 190 Main from 180...would a 195 Main help? Thanks in Advance

People drill out the holes at the base of the slide or drill and tap for smaller adapters, even dynajet says to do it in alot of their kits for increased acceleration supposedly Harley guys say it lets air bleed there faster but I think they the wrong idea if this is how a cv works wouldn't the larger hole allow the vacuum force to bleed off more, slowing the slide lift speed?
