when you fill out that sheet of the pre condition of the vehicle do a walk thru with the customer and have them sign that sheet. this makes it very clear that you are protecting yourself and them.

I agree! You seem like a very honest businessman. That being said, I believe you would have told her if you thought you caused damage. I had my vehicle damaged twice at one of those big car wash places. I immediately noticed the one but the 2nd time I didn't notice until later. Because of that I let it go. I figured it was my fault and possibly it happened at a store parking lot.

Other than getting the hose connector turned around (watch out for that one), the machine is simple to put together and use kzbin.infoUgkxfQauTxLT0JLSvqkq10rD79TU4k0Vz8zP . And very nice, too. I'm surprised at the power-it's more than we'll ever need, and we've not even used the most powerful setting yet.I've cleaned off a dirty concrete porch to get it ready for sealing, started to clean siding, and I know this pressure washer will be terrific for cleaning tools this fall. The only issue we had is we had turned around the hose connector, and it leaked. Once it was on correctly, though, we had no problems with the connection. Just remember that the end with the green knob goes towards the hose. It's obvious now what we did wrong, but not necessarily obvious at the time.

With any kind of service, you always want to take photos and do a pre inspection prior to starting. Better to make the customer aware of things before you begin even if they already knew about it. And always have it in writing(even if it's just texts)

I personally think it's a good business to start with lots of room to grow. The amount of filthy cars out on the road is too many to count. For me, it would be super great for let's say winter because people normally won't be going to car washes when it's freezing outside.

I learned it the hard way with my cleaning business. They had a table with scratches and assumed they realized this, it looked like marks kids make with their toys, but the owner accused me of scratching her table even though the only tools I use on a table are spray and microfiber cloth. Now I take a picture and ask the customer before I start working on it if they are aware of these scratches or broken items before I begin then take an after picture to show nothing changed.

Great vid. I've owned a couple businesses for the past 20 years. You will ALWAYS have things come up like this even when you think all bases are covered... it's just part of owning your business. I think you handled it like a professional. I would call her rather than wait for her to call you. Stay on top of it as it shows the professionalism when dealing with clients. When something happens like that, I usually "eat" it, pay for it to make it right and keep on moving on. If I'm sure that the customer was in the wrong, I usually shy away from doing business with that specific client in the future. I never want to have a bad relationship with them as word of mouth is huge advertising, but I certainly don't bend over backwards or do any favors for them in the future. Put something in place to prevent the incident from happening again and enjoy running your show.

When doing paint correction it’s important to get a paint thickness gauge tool so u know how aggressive u can and cant be when correcting paint. Never assume that the paint is same thickness on the whole car. Always use that meter before going at it

A buddy of mine does mobile detailing as a side hustle and takes a quick video walk through before and after a detail, just for instances like this. He'll download the video off his phone onto his computer, zip it for space, and store it for a year. You never know, people are crazy and will latch onto just about anything they can to not take responsibility for their own actions! You handled it well and went above and beyond with offering to take care of it through the dealership. Keep doing what you're doing!

As a detailer, I recommend not using an air hose to blow dust out around the dash/gauges... it will force dust into the gauges that cannot be removed!! One of my long term customer's mint '12 BMW 750iL had this happen because of this mistake by another company. Use a vacuum and a soft brush :). oh yeah, I like your rig!

A walk through with the customer before and after doing the car is the way I do it. I had a woman who car had run hot that told me seven months later that I probably put something on her car to make the paint bubble up at the grill. Like I told her before I touched the car that it was there. And she said that maybe I put something on it. But like I told her I don't put anything on the body of a car except car wash soap. I don't even use bug and tar remover and most definitely not degreaser on the body to get bugs off. The truth came out eventually. Her car ran hot. The radiator cap on the car had been replaced recently and a new radiator. That was a teaching lesson.

I do close up videos of every inch of the car before and after. Glad you’re writing stuff down before touching the vehicle. Been there done that. Just left a detail that the customer said everything looked great and paid. He messages me 10 minutes later and said that the outside looked bad and he wanted half his money back. And I told him no he shouldve told me that he was dissatisfied while I was there and let me fix what he didn’t like. And then I still posted the before and after videos 🤷🏻‍♂️ the truck looked great.

I do detailing on the side. I had a customer come in wanting a full interior detail on a car he got at an auction with salvage title and just came out of an autobody shop for repairs. His leather seats were cracking and faded, his carpet had stains, human hair all over the place as if someone shaved their head inside the car, and candy stuck to the floor. He wanted it brand new like it was off the car lot. I told him I am not going to be restoring his leather seat because that's a whole different matter, but I would get it cleaned out, sanitized, and smelling good again. He then began to request specifics areas not to be touched such as the glove compartment, center console, and to just dust the front dashboard. He wanted ALL the stains out of the carpet, and I told him it's usually impossible to get every single stain out of the carpet depending on how old and deep the stains are. He got upset at me and told me "Aren't you a detailer? You're supposed to know how to get every single stain off." I told the guy to just chill out, I'll do what I can, and I'll update you once I'm done. I took pictures of the car before I even started cleaning the inside. I cleaned out most of the heavy stains off the leather seats that took more than 3 attempts to get off. Leather seats were conditioned. The carpet took quite some time too but I managed to get around 97% of stains out of the carpet. The glove compartment and center console was not touched. The dashboard was dusted at his request. He contacted me again and requested his vehicle to be bombed by Meguir's odor removing air freshener. His car was bombed. He called me again and requested his car to just have a simple basic wash and nothing else. I went further beyond and applied some finishing detailing spray on his car, polished his rims, and removed waterspots on his windows. I called him up and told him his car was ready. He checked out the car and was disappointed. He asked me why I didn't get all the stains from the carpet. I explained to him the same thing from our first discussion. he checked out his leather seats and complained I damaged it even more and questioned me why I didn't want to restore it. He looked at his side door, saw scratches, and tried to blame me for it. He checked his dashboard and complained about dust inside of tiny gaps of the buttons on his dashboard. He then complained about me not cleaning inside of his glove compartment and center console. He walked around the car and saw that his black trims were not restored and got upset. However, he still paid me but told me I did a shit job and would leave a bad review. He cranked his car and it wasn't starting because of a bad battery. He blamed me for it and told me I need to refund him because I drained out his battery. I got tired of his b**hing so I told him to just get the f**k off of my property after helping him jumpstart his car and blamed him for having a POS car from an auction with a salvage title. He threatened to come back to my place with friends to get his money back. I flashed him my police badge and told him "Try me, b**h." Been on the force for 6 years. I can tolerate a lot of BS but there's a limit.

I detailed a brand new Porsche Tacan Turbo last week and luckily I took over 20 pics before and after because owner blamed me for a significant scratch on the drivers door and if it weren't for the pictures I would have to pay. What he failed to tell me was that that night I detailed it, he went to the club and valet the car and the valet guy scratched it with a bunch of keys dangling from his pants. Also a tip to you i see you wearing jeans.. Don't! .. jeans scratch paint and wearing a belt scratches too so invest in some bball shorts or running training pants with no zippers. Its light, keeps you cooler and prevents damage. Good luck man.. Nice setup

If windows are really bad, wipe em down initially with 1:1 isopropyl alcohol distilled water. This can break down the oil grease buildup. For general/light cleaning I like use ONR at 256:1 dilution (half oz per gallon DI water) and a spritz of Optimum Opti-Seal.....makes for streak free windows.

Use 2 waffle weave towels. One towel to wipe the initial glass cleaner (damp towel). The other towel is dry & wipes off any streaks or excess glass cleaner.

Been getting into detailing recently since I love my truck so I’ve been trying to learn more on how to keep my vehicle in great condition since the paint started chipping. This is great content since I get to learn new tips and tricks and what products are good and what not. The glass window trick blew my mind 🤯lol didn’t think to use three applicators I always just used two and kept changing towels when I got to the other windows and just thought it was the product that made it streaky 😊keep it up man. Always nice to see a brother making it on his own without being held down.

I swear by Invisible Glass in the can. I can do almost all my windows on my truck with one micro fiber. Usually swap out for a new towel on the last couple windows and never get any streaks. Just remember more isn't always better and that goes for cleaners, waxes, sealers, and anything else you may use.

Alot of folks act like that when I use to detail back in the day. Always walk around and document everything with the customer and give them a copy before you touch the car.

Its faster and easier if you video every problem you find on the car. You can use your phone if your don't have a go pro. This way its not just your words on a piece of paper. I actually do both for record keeping but Im a little OCD lol! keep up the great work!

Definitely gotta make sure you do a walkthrough for any liability reasons. This is why detailing Insurance is necessary. But imo 2 weeks is way too late to be reporting a problem. Like 14 days is way too long of a wait to "find something wrong" that a detailer did. I appreciate you stepping out in the spotlight most people never will talk about this side of the business.
