Those copper rings in the brass flare reducers are flare bonnets. They create a seal between brass to brass flare connections. Put a bit of nylog or zoomspout oil between the surfaces. Man you sure got a lot of patience. Guys like that just double the time and concentration required to get the job done. 🤣

I’ve had 2 mini split units installed, one 2 years ago (single head) and another new one (triple head) within the past week. Same brand (Gree), and the same tech doing the installation. Some of the line sets are long so he cuts off every flange fitting and brazes them together and never gets call backs for leaks.

You gotta love DIY installers. Just gooder enough, right?

My New Appion Low Vacuum core removal tool only worked for 2-line sets. After that it would not pull down below 1000 microns. I think the Nyloc sealant might be stretching out the O rings? I don’t mind when my customers watch me work, I actually like it because they usually don’t understand the amount of work involved in installing or repairing an HVAC/R unit until they see it for themselves. But when you get a customer that is constantly talking like that it can be very distracting and frustrating, especially when you are trying to troubleshoot a problem. I have also had the same issues with the Navac core removal tools after a couple of uses, waste of money. I went back to the good old tried and true Appion.

At least you know where the leak is 😅. I was gonna say send me that core remover it would match most of the rest of my aging fleet 😅😅. Guess that one needs to go back to the manufacturer either that was one of a kind or they have a problem. You ever use Nylog on the flare fittings? Just enough to allow the flare to settle into the male part of the fitting might help. When I win the lottery I’m buying a Navac automatic flaring tool but I gotta play first 😅. Btw everything in bloom at your home looks great. Grass and a few trees are budding up here but they’re probably doomed as we will see too many frosts yet here in the mountains
