1:13 Owner probably thought his window was a coin-op. Reminds me of a story of a customer bringing back a new car for a weird rattle. Shop can't find it, replaces parts they suspect under warranty and send the customer on their way. They keep coming back and they go through it all again. After countless times, someone at the shop was fed up and started really digging. They found a couple of nuts had been thrown into the fender before it was welded on in the factory. As a joke. With modern production line tracking, they found the tech, fired him and made him pay some of the bills he caused.

when I was learning car mechanic here in germany, we had a customer who made it a point to clean their car before bringing it for any work to be done. one time he apologized profusely for not doing it because he had no time for it. we could not see any difference, they were keeping their ride clean all day. on the other end of the scale was a car that reeked of someone coming off inside. we suspected someone made out on the back seat one time and couldn't get it all cleaned. which was a pity, the car had a very rare interior version...

Yet you literally never hear about accidents caused by mechanical or structural failures of vehicles. Someone on KZbin bought a truck with a rusted out frame and actually tested to see how easy it was to cause the frame to fail. Turns out they can still take a lot before bending and, when they do, its not that bad. Usually before a frame has reached the point of being a deathtrap, it becomes flexible enough to causes other problems that make the vehicle undrivable.

I use to work for Toyota. There was a service bulletin for it. That’s when Toyota had the issues with their vehicles not stopping and people crashing. It’s because the accelerator pedal was low to the floor and one extra mat would cause it to stick. We had to reshape the pedals.

I always tell my wife: If ever there's _anything_ goes wrong with her car; STOP driving it, turn it off and get it flat-towed. People who think it's ok to "Just keep driving to a garage" are either massively compounding the problem or just straight up grenading their car's engine, turning a couple hundred dollar repair into tens of thousands or write-off. Any time there's a failure; stop as quickly as practicable, ignition off and get it towed.

I once drove around for about two weeks with a loose steering wheel. It was a 1994 Ford Ranger and the horn brushes were worn out. I had to order the part and wait for it to come in. I didn't feel like bolting the steering wheel back on and then removing it again when the brushes came in. So I just put it loosely on the steering shaft and drove. I would pull it off and waive it out the window at the red lights. I got some surprised looks and a few laughs from other drivers. I then got a little bold and started pulling it off while driving down the road. It was good times.

@@HighSierra1500 How do you think it could have gotten that bad?!? I mean, usually it breaks, you try to drive a bit, realize it's hosed, and that's it. Inside, you'll find some broken teeth and some smearing. This one looks like someone *tried* to drive 10,000 miles with the gearing all stripped out. I mean, that thing was LONG PASSED being able to move the vehicle AT ALL.

Depends on their age. Older folks should know better. I remember plain metal keys which then got replaced with keys with chips in them. Those chips, which looked like a small bubble, didn’t go away, just moved on the key.

I saw a driver drive over a stupid sidewalk. The sidewalk design actually has a square protrusion into the road about four feet. So when you turn the curve you immediately have to drive around the stupid portion of the street otherwise like her you'll damage your vehicle underside.

How can one come to know more than nothing about a car without trying to learn? There's a big difference between trying to learn and fix something in a logical way with research and knowing your limits etc, vs the dumb way so often seen in these videos. Species? Not so much, but the USA, yes.
