With that attitude you had no business taking their money. I don't make fun of people because they don't know how their car works, that's why we're the mechanic and they are out customers. That's like your heart surgeon saying you have no business owning your heart since you can't perform your own triple bypass.
@jonathanfairchild3 жыл бұрын
@@beezertwelvewashingbeard8703 I think his point is people who can’t tell when they’re tires are off the rim shouldn’t drive. Drivers who can’t tell when their breaks have worn through shouldn’t drive. Anything like that goes beyond lacking mechanical skills and into the realm of sheer laziness or stupidity. Their car made really bad noises that were ignored. If you get into a fatality accident with brakes like we saw here you might be charged with criminal negligence or reckless driving. If you can’t tell when your car is making seriously concerning noises then you shouldn’t operate a 2000+ lb weapon.

@@beezertwelvewashingbeard8703 Let me make this simple so even you can understand it. The car is the second largest investment most people make. At least open the fucking owners manual and read it. If that were the case most of the stupidity we see in the shop would be eliminated. But most people, mainly men, think they already know everything they need too. Included in that 75% are people who don't drive a car they operate it like toaster or microwave. That is why their are so many fatal crashes on our hiway's. We need to be like Finland.It takes several years to get a license in Finland and before you do you have to show you can DRIVE the car on a skid pad with oil and water on the surface. @@jman0870 After working as an electrical engineer for 2 years, my colleague was surprised to learn that cars have no power steering or brakes while they weren't running. To put this into perspective, i was towing him after his car wouldn't start. He almost rear ended me after not being able to brake without servo/hydraulic pump running. You'd think that's a pretty obvious thing, but no, engineers are extremely dumb for everything outside their expertise, speaking as a mechatronics engineer.

I grew up under a car with my dad. He instilled in me the absolute necessity (and simplicity) of doing routine maintenance so your vehicle will last. Trouble is, I think that was more common 40 years ago. I suspect most people NEVER understand why their vehicle works and what role the various fluids play in that. They are not even curious.

Somebody needed a transfer case :>) Kinda like in the late 1980's when Ford installed Mitsubishi 5 speed manual shift transmissions with transfer cases attached in Bronco II's, which didn't have a front drive axle. It was done on purpose to exhaust the overstock of transmissions before a change over to Mazda transmissions.

If the customer didn't supply the transmission... I've seen that - you price the part for the customer, and they don't want to pay that because "I can get it cheaper," and they order a part that will fit, but is the wrong part. They tell you to install it anyway, despite your protests. I'm not saying for sure that's what happened, only that it wouldn't surprise me.

So go out, take a look. How many miles has it been since an oil change? Whens the last time it had new brakes? How often does it get serviced in general? Are there any noises like banging, clunking, knocking, ticking, grinding? Any shake at low/high speeds? Do your tires have treads? Take it to a mechanic for a complete inspection if you have doubts. Ask them to put it up on a lift and check everything over. Its better to find problems as they develop rather than after they've caused an accident or damaged other parts of the vehicle.

Well yes but actually no. In the same way that people should know how often their car needs an oil change the owner of that car should have known to have the timing belt replaced before it shredded. The one with the water in the door gets me. I once had a convertible mustang. Complaint was they could hear a sloshing noise in rear seat. The rear quarter on both sides were plugged with a trash bag full of leaves and about 5 gallons of water each. It took all day of using a bent coat hanger to scraper the hole clear, let it drain for 5 minutes before it plugged up again and repeat. Once the water was out, I had to let it completely dry out over 3 days so i could use air blower to get all the debris out so it wouldn't happen again
