My girlfriend had a 2020 Ford Edge. When it was about 4 months old, there was a heavy rain storm, that put about 8 inches of water in the right lane. We were doing slow in the left lane, in shallower water, when a guy flew by in the right lane, throwing so much water, we were like a submarine. Instantly, the car threw a bunch of codes, and one of the problems was the electric power steering. We were 200 miles from home, so went to the closest Ford dealer. They said it would need a new steering rack, because a part was broken. They said it would be $6,000. They couldn't even repair it for 6 weeks. I picked it back up, and we drove it home. ( After drying, the electric steering worked.) We took it to the local Ford dealer, and found out the broken part on the electric unit, was buried where nothing could have possibly hit it. It was dropped and broken at the factory, but installed anyway. There was a crack that let water in, shorting the electronics. To make it worse, the first dealer told Ford it was collision damage, so Ford denied the warranty. It took multiple phone calls, and weeks, before a factory rep agreed it was impossible to be accident damage, and they finally warrantied it. The first dealer has since gone out of business.

The delivery driver who hit something offloaded a vehicle reminds me of an incident back in the mid 80s in a town near my home town. One of the main roads in goes under a railroad bridge. Clearance is 12’ 6”. Car hauler with a load of Lincolns headed to a dealership took that route…and peeled off the top row of cars going under the railroad. Pretty sure that was the last day that fellow worked for that hauling company; at least.

@mmasque2052 I know of a delivery driver who hooked a van off the top of his truck. He was going to get fined, or fired, but he swore up and down he had checked before setting off. Eventually someone visited the dealership to investigate and noticed the pole holding the cable he hooked onto had old damage. Turns out the week before it had been hit *just* enough to cause the cable to sag and the clearance was 8 inches lower than it was supposed to be.

Some cars use a hybrid disc/drum for the rear brakes, the calipers are for normal braking operation and the drum is for the parking brake. For those wondering why new cars are often falling apart: Many car manufacturers think it's a great idea when their CEO (who makes millions) hires consulting (who take millions) to cut costs by putting pressure on suppliers (which need to reduce quality to make any profit/break even) and firing people (which don't make millions). It's been like that with Lopez at GM, it's been like that with Lopez at VW and despite both losing money trough recalls, it's still the common thing to do. Add to that the mandatory "connectivity and electrification" (because of Tesla's bubble stock) and you can pretty much replace EY, McKinseys, Accenture and the others.

1:38 reminds me of that mechanic in Poland (it's on insta, i think) that ranted about a 22 Mercedes e class with the gearbox that came wonkers from the factory. Man, standards are being dropped left and right, the consumer gets the short end of the stick and the floppers just cash on to the sky. IMO, if something like this happens, the company has to reimburse the owner for every cent of that car. All of it. No questions asked, no long litigation, pay out. And then the customer has the right to move on to another business. We already have something like this in EU, and it should be global. That would put the corkscrew up their butts for sure.

We need primitive but rugged and reliable cars to be built. I propose allowing legacy Russian automaker, Lada, to build Soviet-era Lada Rivas and Lada Nivas in the U.S. for most car buyers. They are bulletproof and easily maintainable. The EPA and DOT simply have to be reined in HARD to address the lack of affordable and easily ownable cars. What would a Lada Riva need anyway? A GM-style throttle body fuel injection, electronic ignition, a catalytic converter, and a 5-speed w/overdrive. That's it. To buy car or truck more than that in the U.S. requires testing and demonstration of competency on multiple levels. Stuff that breaks modern 4x4 American trucks doesn't even scratch a Lada Niva.

*(**1:20**)* - We need to know which manufacturer said that gem of a statement. So we can be sure to avoid the hell out of them in the future.

You know what's more dangerous than that wobbly car in the final clip? Using your phone to film it while driving. It's definitely not being filmed from the passenger seat.

At least on the fails that made it to this channel of fails, yes. Plenty of cars in the past had awful problems right out of the factory, but that was before social media.
