Don't sell yourself short, Ray. You didn't fail in the repair of that vehicle. Sometimes, you have to step back and look at things from an outside perspective, and sometimes, you need to bounce things off of others who are just as knowledgeable as you are. Even Aaron was stumped until you two decided to trace the wire from the sensor and found the bare spot in the wire.

Hey, hi and hello. For quite some time now (about 11 months) I've been sitting in front of the TV every evening after work to watch the next, eagerly awaited, Rainman Ray Repair video. For me, as a master motor mechanic in Germany, Ray is one of the most extraordinary mechanics I have ever had the privilege of watching at work. Sometimes I wait weeks for a German sentence, or even just a German word. 2 times today. I'm personally very happy about that. For my part, I think that the termination in the old company was the best thing that could have happened to the "Repair Wizard". (Except for the phone sound, I miss it :D ) With his own business he can show what he can do and gets the harvest himself. Not the boss! (AKA Ford Boss on KZbin? I think!?!?) It's nice to see how he tackles the problem of vehicle errors. Even if we have the same job, the differences are bigger than you think. In Germany it is sometimes considerably more difficult. Downsizing is everywhere here. Getting a normal engine for repair or diagnosis has become very, very rare. I work alone in an independent car dealership with around 250 used cars and normal customers. 70% of my work is service and inspection. But also "TüV" (statutory vehicle inspections every 2 years). So every evening I wait for the new video. It's a 6 hour time difference. Most of the time it's already there and I'm happy. Good and honest mechanics are very rare here in Germany and also in the USA. Ray is doing an exceptionally good job. A great deal of expertise and experience is evident in every single video. Ray please keep it up you are a really very good mechanic. 8 months ago it was all over. Now you've built a business out of the ground. You have a great secretary Alias Wife Unit and a good helper / trainee Troy and a lot of fans (also in Germany) Sorry for the bad english. I understand it but when I wrote it I had it translated. Greetings from Hanover Expo City 2000 Germany Karl Heinz Brey (52)

Add a reflector tip to your heat gun, it makes using the solder splices easier. If you are having an issue heating the other wires not being repaired, wrap them in wet paper towel and secure with aluminum foil. Lessens the risk of accidentally melting the neighbor wires. Remove covers before looming.

Aron said it right there “DIYs do not have access to” which has become a real problem over the years and it is getting worse! Back in the day, a vehicle purchased meant that everything on or in that vehicle was yours. However, in the eighties, the dealerships were in trouble because people would not bring their vehicles back for service. Then came the PCM, ECM, TCM, and that annoying “check engine” idiot light. Then the trouble started with the diagnostic codes and the machine to retrieve them. The software became the manufacturer’s proprietary realm which shut off the DIYs and forced the owner to return to the dealership to repair the vehicle at exorbitant prices. So, who owns the vehicle? The manufacturer or the person who bought and paid thousands of dollars for it? Sure, we have our SnapOn code reader and diagnostic tool but the dealership has tremendous access to other software features vital to the true repair of the vehicle! It's an immorality for the manufacturer to hold the vehicle owner and those who work on them hostage to their proprietary software! I contend that any software installed on the vehicle which I own becomes my property and I have the right to access that software and devices to initiate any repair or replacement! Who owns it? The rightful owner or the manufacturer? To restrict the repair of a vehicle and deny the rightful owner access to tables, settings, and stored values to reset the device is wrong! There are stories of vehicle or machine owners (farm equipment) denied access but were able to replace the appropriate part but still machine does not operate because the software-controlled device could not be reset. A ten-dollar part but to get the manufacturer to reset the appropriate control module cost the owner thousands of dollars! Absolutely wrong!

Tip: When installing Wire Loom use good quality electrical tape at the ends of the Loom and every 6 inches. This ensures the wires will not vibrate out of the Loom. Some manufacturers go as far as tapping the entire Loom at some locations.
@duncancremin1708 Жыл бұрын
Now that’s a class act! When anything defeats me, which still happens occasionally, I don’t get to have the expert come to my place and use my tools, with me looking on. If I farm something out, I have to deliver it, leave, wait for the call to say it’s done, collect it again and usually provide a loan car for the extra day(s) that it’s away. That invariably means I’m not doing something else, while I’m shuttling cars around and often means I have no personal transport, too. Ray has it SORTED! As for the problem, that’s becoming much more common nowadays, with all the thin wall cables. It’s a proper PITA to find, too, because any time you disturb the faulty cable, you solve the problem temporarily. It takes a bit of driving and start stop cycling to settle the cables back to their original position and make the problem reappear. The diagnostic kit is good for telling us which signal is wrong, providing we know what we’re looking at, but you still need a schematic and ideally a harness map, to know where to look on the car. This was an impressive find.
