1:59 Those brake pads are what I do with my bar soap in the shower. When it gets too small, I break out a new bar of soap. But the first time I use it (when it's wet and soft), I smush the small old bar into the new one so they'll fuse. That way I can use up all the old soap. Never thought of trying that with brake pads!

Two guys brought in an old Chrysler Town N County mini van that they said they had just bought and wanted an expensive sound system installed. The system cost more than the jalopy it was going in. We all kind of guessed at where the money came from but the boss didn't care...at first. When I was taking off the driver side door panel I noticed a tiny switch on the side of the dash. It was almost in the same place as the one in the video. Normally there's a recess and in there is a screw that you remove to take off that side of the dash. I showed it to my boss and he was thinking it was a secret fuel cut off switch. Then we started tracing the wiring. We eventually found a little button under the dash on the passenger side. When the switch was up my boss pressed the button and the center of the dash popped up. It was a hidden compartment that was pushed up using two small pneumatic cylinders. When the boss saw that he told me to button it up and get it out of the shop. I parked it at the gas station a couple of blocks over and left the keys in it. What do you expect when the two guys who brought it in paid almost $10k in cash(mostly $5 & $10) and said their names were WeeWee and MoneyGrab. How do you get names like that? Never mind, I don't want to know.😄

I'm not an auto sparky but I do remember nearly burning my mate's first car to the ground. The stereo kept cutting out and he wanted me to have a look so I found the wiring fitted by his brother which some of was wrapped around the rod of the pedal box and the return spring was rubbing through it every time you pressed the clutch. I'm just having a look around up there when the wire suddenly gets screaming hot and the insulation starts melting and smoking but I managed to rip it off and gave myself a good plastic filled burn on my finger! Not only was it wrapped around the clutch spring but it was un-fused! Sorted it for him with a fuse box feed and told him he was pretty lucky!

I bought an old Chevy S-10 pickup. It had more holes in it, I think, than it did body panels. I spray foamed the holes in the cabin, so I didn't freeze in the winter, and used a brand new piece of stair tread (stained and sealed like a deck) as a tail gate. I bolted it right in, and it kept my Swiss cheese box from flopping around. I bought it for $400. I drove it for 3 years, then sold it for $500. It may have sounded like a lawn mower, and it smashed up a spark plug once, but it was a good little truck. it had a manual transmission, and was MADE with no power steering.

Yeah, I remember one from last week. I don't remember what the problem was, but I think it involved the brakes. The customer declined repairs, and the shop told them the only way it was leaving without them was on a tow truck. The customer changed their mind.

That broken ignition thing at the end is actually pretty clever, though I'd never drive that vehicle anywhere lol. I have an old farm truck I might do this with just cause the key constantly gets misplaced by others and I have to spend hours looking for it. It would solve my issue real fast if I just had a simple switch lmao.

That's most definitely a log truck, literally lol...I remember seeing vehicles in Ohio with wooden body parts cause salt doesn't eat wood up as quick as thin metal, it was mostly bed sides and doors. They had alot of skills with wood in the 60s and 70s into the 80s cause some of em looked purty good after applying paint lol. Gotta do what you gotta do when you're poor and have to use whatever works...I think the factory needs to add more under coating to Northern vehicles cause I've had a few Ohio vehicles and they ran really good except for the rusted frames and bodies....

I always wonder how much is charged for fixing "issues" like the pinecone or wiper blade, like, the minimum work hour charge for the shop I'd imagine? or nothing?
@richardvenables619
@richardvenables619 Жыл бұрын
Likely depends on the shop and the customer. If you're decent, albeit clueless, about some simple problem, a lot of shops are usually OK with losing 5-10 minutes of labour, creates good customer relationships that way. On the other hand, if you come in rude, or swearing a blue streak, or complaining right off the start about how much something is going to cost, you're more likely to get hit for every minute the tech is checking it out.
