That smoking car thing happened to me a few yrs ago. Got oil change at a quick change shop , drove about a mile and suddenly I’m laying down a smokescreen for the Normandy invasion. Drove straight to a real mechanic shop a couple minutes away and they told me the other place didn’t drain oil when they did the change, just added more. So I guess that happens a lot more than you would think. The quick change shop got indignant and accused me of lying when I told them what happened. Never went there again and told anyone I could about them.

I am NOT a fan of German cars. They make their cars out of lousy parts anymore, then charge a shite-ton to replace them. And that's if you can even work on the car yourself because they've been designed to resist any repairs by the owner/home mechanic. My mother had a BMW 328i sport wagon and it broke down on average once a month. My father and I spent hours replacing components that fought us all the way when we stopped taking it to the dealer mechanic (who of course screwed us over by charging insane prices and not repairing the car correctly). Feck that. Dad bought her a Toyota and in the ten years we've owned it, nothing has ever gone wrong. For what one pays, German cars are garbage.

Knew the oil thing. But it did take me a while to learn that. Hot glue gun on a tire. That was new for me. the whole requiring shorter lugbolts is stupid. Mercedes should know that their average customer doesnt read the manual nor know how to change a tire. And they should also know that more often than not people that are sent out to change the tire on the side of the road are often lowest bidder and typically are not well versed in every manufacturer's stupid BS like this.

Another easy way to pour oil, coolant, washer fluid, etc. especially out of large jugs, is turn it sideways and pour away. Makes it so easy in low clearance engine bays

The fact there’s people driving around with their vehicles held together with rope is terrifying There’s this one guy on my commute who had a jeep with a broken frame, he drove around at max 45 mph for like 3 months before the cops finally put a stop to it after many complaints. Now he has this old beater Silverado that he can barely keep on the road. I always say, he’s either drunk, falling asleep, on his phone, or just a terrible driver. I honestly don’t know which it is.

I used to work at a hardware store. One day a guy comes in and asks if I have a double sided magnet. I said is this some kind of trick question? He said his car door wouldn't stay closed and he wanted a magnet to hold it shut. I said do you know how much force is on that door in a turn to hold it closed? I suggested he reevaluate his safety and get it fixed properly. He conceded that I had a point.

They probably overfilled the oil. #1 cause of that problem. Drain out some of the oil, until it's at the CORRECT level and the smoke problem will disappear. It might take a few minutes of running.

I can't remember who's story it was (might have been my brothers from working as gas jocky in a major canadian city), but they were asked to add some oil to a vehicle that was in for fuel. Yup, wasy overfull. Whoever was adding oil for them never pulled the dipstick before putting more in... I had an 80's fwd chrysler that the foot well behind the drivers tire pulled a disappearing act on me - I had it hauled to the wrecking yard, and told them to make sure it never went back on the road. The boys there did played dukes of hazzard until the trans went, then pinned it until the motor went. Local FD used it for fire practice a while later.

@compuholic822 жыл бұрын
WTF. How much neglect does it take to let the floor pan of your car rust through. That's not something that happens overnight. That car certainly never had a maintenance inspection. I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the car was similarly well-maintained. It's probably also a good bet that the brake pads were never checked and that it never had an oil change. And I'm not from the U.S. and I don't know what a quick lube shop is. But how can someone like that own a repair shop? With the engine burning that much oil, the catalytic converter is probably also trashed.
@JustRolledIn2 жыл бұрын
A Quick lube shop is a building that you can pull up too and drive your vehicle in and get your oil changed quickly. Their known to be quicker then going to a shop or a dealership but I don't think they're any cheaper.
@d.pierce.68202 жыл бұрын
I live in a state that uses lots of salt on the roads in the winter-even well-maintained cars like mine eventually rust. My current truck has rusty wheel wells, but I have maintained it by the book from day one. Just because it looks beat-up doesn't mean it's junk. It still runs like new, and I'm not wanting to spend $50,000 on a new one anytime soon.

@markh.66872 жыл бұрын
Being totally stupid helps greatly.
@TwinShards2 жыл бұрын
First one. My brother borderline did the same mistake. He went to check the Oil level immediately after a drive and saw the level "low". Mistake. He added more oil and his engine started to smoke every time he would come to a stop then drive (causing the engine to even Stall!) It fixed itself after 2 weeks. The way the engine is built in his Mazda, the PCV valve is somewhat low and infront of the engine, hence why when he would brake, the engine would start drinking his own blood.
@JBofBrisbane Жыл бұрын
PCV valve is unrelated - more likely the excess oil got past the oil control rings andcwas burnt off in the combustion chambers until the level stabilised.
