@shia_labeoufАй бұрын
DON'T TRY TO RESTART IT! I feel like this should be on the driving theory test! If your ICE car dies in water it's probably because the air intake got submerged, the engine stopped getting air, so it choked into stopping. That's not the end of the world. Get towed to safety and check filter and the block. There's a good chance you just need the air intake and filter to dry out and you're away. If you try to start it immediately, you will suck all the water that's in the intake into the motor. Water doesn't compress like air so you will bend/snap pistons and now you're talking a full engine rebuild.

For the benefit of those not familiar with European, including British, geography many settlements are at river crossings with all buildings above historic flood levels. Most of the time the road will be dry or have a little water over it. Very occasionally a ford will be too deep to cross, in which case people in the past would simply wait a few hours for it to go down. Although flooding is more frequent now, building a bridge to allow for rare floods is not just expensive but difficult because it affects access to adjacent properties. There is always an alternative route.

All you generally have to do is approach the water slowly and drive through slow; don't try and drive fast through it. Of course, it still maybe too deep !! I have a Toyota Hilux and probably would avoid it. I've driven my vehicle in the backcountry in Icelandic river crossings; much more scary. You tend to start believing in an almighty.
