Customer Wants Torn Mower Deck Welded Back Together

A customer dropped off his mower to get the mower deck welded back together. It looks like the mower deck got caught on something and it tore it apart and peeled it back. I discovered it had been repaired before. We straighten it out and add some reinforcing plate then weld it back together using a basic 120 volt wire feed welder with flux core self-shielded wire for a nice solid repair that will last for many years. I love these types of repair jobs because it shows a realistic approach to an actual real life problem.

Brandon, this is a known failure point for many riding mowers that have had a hard life. My repair in the past that has held up permanently, is to weld a piece of rebar around that bottom lip of the deck overlapping the cracked area by a couple of inches on each side. The rebar along that weak area of the deck makes it incredibly strong. Great video... Joe

Great repair, and another great presentation. That repair saved the owner the cost of replacing a mower deck which I am sure is not cheap. I love to see things repaired with just a little elbow grease and a welder. That's how things used to be and I am glad to see that it is not a lost art. Again, great job!!!!

You got that right Sir. I tell ya good word on it. That ole Brandon does some fine excellent work. If half of Americans had his generosity and politeness, well let's just say America would be great again. That's no BS, brown nosing that's how I see it watching lots of the mans videos, his work ethic is just on par. His generosity over the top, and yes I've thrown my name in on some give aways, yes I also told the man take my name out of hat, had some medical issues pop up and won't be doing anything this season. Because that's when I would have won, my luck. get it might not be able to use it. Let someone get um that needs, uses them to learn or just can't afford. Yes Sir, I'm with ya I love seeing things like that happen to. doesn't happen a lot . That's sad when we could help our neighbors but this day an age, some of the neighbors helping themselves to our things when we go off or even to bed. I say he's the real ( let's go Brandon). Brandon for president.. Well better quit rambling. Stay safe ole buddy. From ur ole hillbilly buddy .

It's hard to make a silk purce out of a sow's ear as you know. It turned out good on the underside and back repair but trying to cover up someone elses first repair was a booger. Looks like the customer is prettyy hard on his mower too and that doesn't help matters either. But repairs are done and he's back on the road again . Thanks for sharing with us Brandon, stay safe and keep up the good videos. OLD DAWG DREAMING Fred.

Run a couple beads perpendicular on repairs like that second one, like 2 inches. It gives the sheet metal extra thickness so it takes more to bend it.

Thanks man. It's always a tough call when trying to balance getting into the unknown and having the price skyrocket because you are trying to make it better but it opens up a whole other can of worms you didn't expect. Sometime making it as good as you can with what you have is the better way even if the overall look is not as good. This should last him many years and if he rips it off again I would give him a great deal and put 3/8" dowel around the perimeter.

This is the type of welding I was waiting for: FluxCore😀. Yesterday I had to make a repair on beams which hold floors of an old house. Because of the severe draft(no windows) I had to FluxCore it with 0.9mm wire on 140A. The beam was quite thick. I had to do it overhead so I had some bad burns. I did myself a favour and eventually bought myself a leather welding jacket. They are expensive $100 Amazone but a must-have. Loved to watch this wonderful repair and how much you can do with FluxCore. The more you clean before, the less the spatters.Thank you for this learnsome vid and greetz from Holland, Marcel Knippers😀💪

@@BrandonLund Thanks a lot Brandon. Appreciate your comment/like. Forgot to add, that FluxCore gives a very strong weld. I welded a few constructional(S235) steel bearing beams HEAB 160mm. Noticed that the weld was much stronger that the mothermaterial, lest you clean first before start welding. FluxCore eats itself deep in the material. I prefer to weld in stages so as to be able watching the weld. I like it more and more. For the small purse an absolute solution. Next will be buying the ArCaptain 200 TIG 230V😄. Hope I may see lots and lots more of your vids. Basically you should stand before the classroom. The way you explain methods is a gift you've got. Definitely a plan B😅💪
