Finally! A video on dry brushing. Sooo hard to find any on KZbin that are decent. It's like a secret trade that no one should know, unless they paid premium price... Nice tutorial, as always.

great technique and long strokes for 1:12 scale action figs . . . I guess you would have to do tiny/ fast strokes for X-Wing Miniatures 1:270 scale . . .

Trying to collect mythic legions parts to use parts and make a custom of blue devil. Got some of the parts that are original, and getting some that are custom printed. Hope I can pick up enough tips to paint it like this when I get them all together.

Thank you very much! I was just about to reply to your first question. I did apply a wash to these parts first before dry brushing, and welcome to the channel

Great stuff! I always think I’m going to be too heavy-handed & usually overcompensate! But it’s always fixable. Washes I’m not so up on,so how about a tutorial on that? Prep etc?🤞🏻

Can you or have you ever black wash first, then go over it with a dry brush paint, or is that wrong 🤔

Do you seal the figures when done? If so, what do you use? Also, what thanks awesome channel 👍
@CollectorExpress Жыл бұрын
I do indeed apply a sealer to the figures when I'm done. I used an automotive hard top coat to seal them. I used a product called Duplicolor Top Coat which is very glossy, and after that drys I apply a dull coat usually Mr Hobby Matt finish
@rafaelortega4151 Жыл бұрын
Did you simply apply the paint on top of the original? Or did you prep it in any way?
@CollectorExpress Жыл бұрын
The first thing that you should do before applying paint is to wash the figure in warm soapy water. You need to do that to remove any mold release and any contaminants that would keep the paint from sticking. After that, you can apply the paint directly to the figure.

Great video! One question, not sure if i missed that part, but do you use a primer before painting/washing? Or only after?
@CollectorExpress Жыл бұрын
I don't always use primer mainly when going from a dark color to a lighter color. I do recommend washing all the parts with soapy water to remove any contaminants like mold release off the figure before painting.

What do you seal it with so that you don’t chip your paint when posing.

Mr Hobby makes some really good top coats that's what I have been using.

How do you make that transition/shade between green and beige color with brush???
@CollectorExpress2 жыл бұрын
Some of that is from the original base color that was airbrushed on. And when I dry brushed the green around the beige I lightly feathered the edges. All the brush strokes were towards the beige area with very light strokes.

I did seal it with a top coat and then applied a Mr Hobby matt clear over that.

What do I need to do, If I want to make custom figures on marvel legends? Do I need a technique before and after painting tips? Cuz I just have tried to paint on figure with model color paints and after drying the paint comes easily off. Did I did maybe something wrong? Or the paints are not good enough for plastic? I want to know!
@CollectorExpress2 жыл бұрын
Are you using acrylic paints? Which is the best type to use on action figures. But some require a sealer to make the paint durable. I like to use Mr Hobby clear sealers, and those come in different finishes (gloss, semi-gloss, and matte).
@mrhumanspider2 жыл бұрын
@@CollectorExpress I use acrylic paints that is called model color vallejo. And are not good for plastic after dry comes off like a gum .

Great tutorial. What paint did you use for the basecoat of the custom head? Thank you!

I primed the head with Mr Hobby spray primer, and the base color is Testors Model Master Acrylic Dark Green. I'm glad to hear that you liked the tutorial.

Is special dry brush needed for dry brushing? Or itll work with any kind of brush?
@CollectorExpress2 жыл бұрын
I just use any type of brush I have available. For larger surfaces I use a wider brushes, but the size brush really depends on what you are painting. There are special dry brushing paint brushes, but really you can use any paint brush.

What Brand of paint and Brushes you use
@CollectorExpress2 жыл бұрын
My go to for years was Testors Model Master acrylics, but they have been discontinued. I have been trying out Mr Hobby acrylics and they seem similar to the old Testors paints. As for brushes I usually just buy the cheap sets from Amazon for painting miniatures.
