Harbor Freight sells knock-off Pelican cases. Ammo boxes, both plastic and metal. Rifle cases. Tactical style bags and backpacks. Hard side luggage. It's not the best fit for the Star Wars universe, but something to look at. For fasteners, there are also Torx head screws and Security Torx head screws. Both have a scifi look. Especially the Security Torx screw with the tiny pin in the middle.

Absolutely love this. It’s these additions that can make or break a starwars ambiance. I’ve used adhesion promoter I believe rustoleum makes it. Really helped with the cases I’ve been doing.

What about just grabbing a bunch of a specific security screw? I've seen sets of security screw screwdrivers at Harbor Freight and some of those had a good sci-fi look

Can I ask if there’s any videos on what it looks like in the inside? With so many screws and electrical components how did you go about making sure it all sits snug without compromising the interior with screws sticking out and how did the electrical components get tucked away neatly
@OddVikingАй бұрын
the screws usually are in recessed spots with standard nuts, or acorn nuts (or plastic screw covers) if they would touch the costume. all electronics have some kind of box cover to protect them, and covers for cords (or run them down in grooves if they exist).

@@OddViking I saw briefly in your fourth part of the series so I apologize about asking it here on the third part how would there be any chance you have more pictures of it on any of your other social media of how you went about covering it? is there a list of potential parts you may have used or things you found to use for covers over the led light bulbs?
@OddVikingАй бұрын
@@KojiWoji_ I have shown some of that in my build posts on Instagram, but they are different every time. Sometimes I use a simple two-part pencil box, and glue in some angle brackets to allow it to be bolted in place. I have used lots of small random boxy parts, like soap travel boxes, that sort of thing. I like ones with a lip of some kind that I can drill a hole to bolt through. It is different in every box, but I do always protect it with some kind of removable cover.

@@OddViking ahh okay one last question I have is for someone on a budget where can we find greeblies? I went to a local mom and pop electronics part store today to grab a few and the price added up quickly, ended up spending $58 on parts I was going to use as greeblies on the bin. Any ideas what we can do to find alternatives?
@OddVikingАй бұрын
@@KojiWoji_ Finding the right ones is all down to chance, just keep an eye out. Look for old parts at thrift stores, old cameras and other 70's era tech has a lot of milled aluminum knobs, or sometimes good sci-fi shapes are in kid's toys. But it takes years of slowly filling my small greeblie bins, and eventually I have just the right part. Now I often resin print custom ones to fit, and there are some affordable ones on Etsy for sure, but still at least half of what I use are found parts that just work in that perfect spot.

Hi just stumbled upon your video as I’m starting my custom case for my lightsaber. Do you know what kind of box you used for the case at 3:43?

That one is a kind of index card box I found at a yard sale, but I haven't been able to find a similar one. It is clearly a discontinued box.

That is a black vinyl decal, on a rectangle of translucent white plastic, with some red gel behind one part, and a battery nightlight behind that. I go into the battery nightlight in part 4. This IG post shows the decal a little better: instagram.com/p/CJWSSEDMDx5/

@@OddViking thanks for the quick reply! I saw the nightlight option you presented - I am having trouble finding a dang night light (go figure). Love what youre doing here! Not sure if youre in LA area, but if so, you can get free gel samples from movie supply houses ( i can tell you which ones) if you want to try out different colors etc.

Thanks! In this case, I used a 3M self-adhesive used for temp brake light repair. I have a selection of gels for other colors, but red works well for Imperial. Here is the style of night light I have used: “nextool 2-Pack Adjustable Battery Operated LED Night Lights a.co/d/hdblCZT “

What is your best source for finding containers? I assume you are going to say "everywhere", but thought I would ask.
@OddViking2 жыл бұрын
I use a lot of "Husky" and "Plano" brand containers, because they have a great look already with the shapes of their panels and reenforcement. Those I get at Home Depot. A lot of high-end equipment cases (like Pelican brand, or similar) are what you see a bit in the movies and Galaxy's Edge, but those can be expensive new. Used ones turn up a lot though, from photographers, musicians, labs, and all kinds of places. There are also knock-off ones in the same style from places like Amazon and Harbor Freight.

I found someone on maybe Reddit of all places, and they sent me a few dozen in different sizes. This was before I had my own resin printer, and that model is fairly easy to find on places like Thingiverse.

Dis you disassemble the wheels on the husky rolling case. I have the smaller version but can't figure how to take apart to paint. Plus mine is extremely loose
@OddViking2 жыл бұрын
No, I just taped them off with paper. Taped tightly so that some spray can get around them, and although they don't get fully colored, I do a lot of spatter weathering behind, so it looks good.

I found some tiny bags of black and brown and grey in a pack from Amazon that was for tinting epoxy or stone repairs. It was called "EZ-Tint 4 Pack. Epoxy or Polyester Tint for Stone. 5 Grams Each of Highly Concentrated fine Powders of The 4 Primary Colors of Stone. Black Brown White Gray" and I used it mixed with other colors to get darker versions. Very tiny bags, but it went a long way.

The ones used in this video are from Trooper Bay, which has a darker rust brown, but it is very staining like rust. I mix it with the grey and that gives me a good dirt brown.
