Hi there Amanda, I did use the fast drying polyurethane but as you said, it dried to fast and made my finish to look extremely uneven. May I know how you removed the layer of poly you did before? I sand it using 220 grit sand paper but still no luck when I did the second coat.

It’s held up great. If I were to do it again I’d skip the stain and varnish and go with a rub on oil protectant. I can’t recall w/o googling, but linseed or one of those that’s good for butcher blocks.

The desk looks great! I have been planning to do something very similar and thankfully you published the only video about customizing apex desk frame with a wood top. How is the desk frame holding up? Have you noticed any decrease in performance from the apex desk motors? That is the only thing that worries me with these desks, cheaply made motors going bad. Apex seems to be better in quality than other desks from what I have seen. Just curious of your experience. Thanks!

Can you use the table immediately without coating anything? Or what is the simplest way to coat it as a protection layer? I heard of air bubbles and gummy uneven stuff when not coated properly, I am afraid I might mess up while painting.

You can just use something like linseed oil to protect the surface or if you are not super particular you can certainly use as is

Also I saw that the Apexdesk could hold a max weight of 280 lbs. Are you sure it could hold 350?

I’m not sure now this late after making what the limits are but This is a super solid desk, I can’t imagine that extra 80lbs being too much for it. I don’t know anyone who puts 350lbs on a desk tho and needs to be able to raise it

It would depend on what inputs your monitors has. You have have to find a ubs-c/thunderbolt 3 to whatever your monitor has.
