I know what the big hole under the gas pedal was for - but I'm 66 years old too. It was probably for the foot operated starter switch mounted to the starter and stuck up through the floor.

For your sandpaper tool, timber dowel with a slot cut down the length works a treat. The slot holds the end of the paper and stops it from slipping out, and using timber means no risk of gawling up surfaces.

I like how Rich says “and we will put the cab on for the FINAL time” and then you see him take it off at least two more times.😂 or engine, or seats, etc...
@CaneAtvse
@CaneAtvse Жыл бұрын
Maybe they made the hole for the steering that way because of different engine combos that required different angles the make the steering work so they just made the hole big and used different cover plates for different engines??? Especially for like the big 2 ton work trucks cuz the cabs were still the same as passenger trucks but I'm sure there were different steering angles for them

It's a ton of fun watching you prove that you can still do this in the driveway with hand tools (i.e. where a lot of your audience still lives). Comment on those stepper bits: for those of us without mills, lathes, and hardened tooling, stepper bits are life. While the titanium-coated Harbor Freight units you were using are fine for one-job-destruction, the $70 chromoly units from the home improvement stores are worth the investment provided they are lubricated properly during the work.

Different to see the ground wet so much this year. The reason for the elongated steering column hole is because they used that cab for many different model trucks from the Apache to the larger 2 ton trucks

25:36 Those are "Clutch Head" screws, very common on early and mid 50's Chevrolet's. A Robertson fits fairly well (for us Canadians). The steering column hole in the floor is a big long slot because on the assembly line, they lowered the cab onto the frame with the steering column center shaft in place. After lowering the cab onto the frame, they install the steering column tube with that cover slid over the column shaft to cover the slotted hole.

My suggestion would be to make that shaft inside of the brake pedal solid and non rotating, then use a oiled bronze busing to mount the clutch pedal so that when you push on the clutch pedal there’s no chance that it will turn that shaft inside of the brake actuate the brake pedal as well. Overall great idea on the pedals

on the 5.3 swapped '59 apache i'm building, i used an F100 pedal assy. had to cut it down a little bit to fit under the dash, then a couple brackets to mount the same m/c & booster you used. plated the inside of the f/w with a piece of 3/16. i used an IDITIT tilt column, which i shortened 2.5" to allow better angles to the Mustang2 power rack & pinion x-member. centered the column on the dakota digital gauge cluster and closed up the extra holes. the 5.3 fit fine without modifying the f/w, just some tunnel clearancing.. :)

I must say you're an inspiration to alot of us. It must be so nice to have a build in your head and have the funds to build it finally. I've got three rigs I have major plans for but have struggled for years and years to get a place to build them and the parts to make the builds happen. I'm about 80% of the way for my square body swap onto my 24v and hopefully after next week about 30% of the way for my little truck (buying a junk 4l80e to rebuild, still deciding on either using the gen 6 454 I have or a 6.0l). I also have an 82 Bronco that will maybe someday get a full 7.3l drive train and Axles. But man, parts are super expensive these days and the companies are getting waaaaaay too greedy. That's on top of the EPA trying to force us to all drive golf carts while they drive limos.

You’re doing it wrong, maybe! To convert that brake mount for at clutch would have been easier if you simply cut the pivot tube off beside the brake lever, welded the clutch pedal to the bit you cut off and put it back on with a nylon bushing between. Or you could have put the clutch master under the floor using the original brake master mounts etc.

When I did my cummins swap in my 05 2500hd I built my clutch pedal setup with a similar design and it didn't work the sleeve being inside the brake sleeve is the issue every time you push the clutch the brake lights come on because it pivots the brake pedal at the same time even with Alot of grease in there I had to do a 2nd version that doesn't share the same sleeve but still shares the same threw bolt now works perfectly.

Rich cut your clutch tube so that you can weld a nut to the end of it for the bolt you currently have that will fix that bolt problem then get a piece of tube that will slide over the clutch tube where you weld the nut weld a mount bracket on the tube so you can then slide the tube left or right for the extra clutch pedal mount and it also acts as a bushing for the clutch pedal tube win win in my books and if you need to remove the clutch pedal you only need to remove the bolt quick and easy love the biuld cheers from down under

a little trick i use for sanding holes not unlike the one you had is to find a used torque to yield head bold cut the head off of it then cut a slice down the center of it the width of your sand paper, then slide the paper in the slice and roll it up to the dimension you need, do not throw the bolt away it is now a reusable torque to yield bolt ! Lol 😳

Don't think it would have worked here, but I remember a car in the early 90's that came from Asia, not sure what brand, had a break booster mounted on the right firewall with a fulcrum under the dash going from one side to the other to push/pull it. It had made the news as some passengers were able to put their feed up under right side and activate the breaks. Should have been shielded I guess 🤔. The project is coming along nicely, you are a great innovator 👍👍
