Hey folks! Let me know in the comments below what you thought of the build, if there are any cards you think I missed that would be a good fit for it, and what other commanders you would like to see me cover from this set.

I personally find the Mycotyrant to be an awesome tribute and love letter to an age old set of tribes that is still very much loved and played to this day and time: Fungi and saprolings. Best part is this really is a budget tribe as all cards almost no matter how your build is are both cheap and easily accessible to any and all mtg players as well as the Mycotyrant gives fungus players a mythic rare commander of their own to use. A personal awesome thing for me this is a real Golgari tribe as most of the Fungus cards have a good mix of Black and Green cards and outright reward for playing Golgari. Yes elves are regarded as the biggest Golgari tribe of all but in realistic reality almost all of those cards veer towards playing green even the black cards(at least two cards add green mana to your mana pool)and the black elves aren't even nearly as numerous or as powerful as the green ones as well as the number of elf cards that both add green mana and demand green mana to use their abilities activated or otherwise makes me so no point to playing them as a Golgari but I do play them as an amazing mono green EDH tribe

You know it's funny. Im actually building a self mill insect deck with Zask Skittering Swarmlord. He's a unique commander, being a crucible of worlds on a body. I noticed they are kinda similar, although zask wants you to reanimate more.

Loved your video, gotta say, I've never tried a "self mill" type deck, I might try yours online, as it looks easy to pilot and quite strong. For future future EDH builts, I don't know if Xavier Sal, Infested Captain, from the Lost Caverns Commander cards has catched your attention. Its an interesting Populate/Proliferate commander. I've tried building it a Saga thematic with a little bit of superfriends on it, but I can't figure it out how make the pieces work, even tho there are planeswalkers and sagas that are game finishers, I lack the boardstate to get to them or finish the other players before their strats wins.
@GrazzetMTG8 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it and, if you did end up building/piloting it, let me know how it goes! Xavier Sal, Infested Captain is certainly an interesting build around. He does have a few directions he can be taken in (Tokens, Super Friends, Counters, etc) so I wouldn't mind tackling a build with him at the helm to see what direction I would settle on taking him in.

I’m commenting this while listening, but your opponents can’t kill mycotyrant at end of m2 without you getting a chance to recast it.

To be fair, most of them are. That said, it looks like there either was a minor editing error on the price of Merciless Executioner (I have it at $0.05 on my spreadsheet but TCGplayer is showing it at around $0.25) so that is my bad. Thanks for bring this to my attention.

Doesn’t there have to be a fungus on the battlefield otherwise The Tyrant ETB as a 0/0, right?

The Mycotyrant itself is a fungus. So with no other fungi or saprolings on the battlefield he enters as a 1/1

Finally, been waiting for your mycotyrant budget build since you have announced it to be your next video. Not going for a token centered build is very much appreciated. Gonna build this with your recommended upgrades not including that Gaia's Cradle hahahaha. More power and keep up the great work.

I built a Mycotyrant deck but will be making some changes after watching this video. One artifact I added was Keening Stone, it's really brutal, especially with the Mesmeric Orb in play

This deck has been a lot of fun to play. It consistently wins, it usually does something every turn, it punches up in weight class, the panic in my opponents eyes when my commander grows in size is satisfying, and the fact if they board wipe me it usually leads to a lot of burn. Anytime some ask to borrow a deck this is the deck they ask for. Thanks for coming up with such a great deck.

Guides are amazing. Deck builds are fantastic. Ive seen a few versions of this deck and was mad to build one but the cheapest i can get is €123 and thats before shipping. Still though, keep up the great work. Love the guides and decks. Ive done some of the upgrades you suggested. Looking forward to testing them against some friends.

I wonder if Uurg and Terravore would work in the 99 in this deck. Uurg sucks but if you add a trample/draw terravore it might be another late win con

Maybe a dumb question but is there a reason why there are no instants and sorcery cards and little removal cards? Is it because of self mill strategy and the chances are to high to have them milled so it is better have more graveyard matters cards? I never have played self mill/milling deck before but this deck looks interessting and fum to play

I was surprised to not see Altar of the Brood or Altar of Dementia (i guess for budget reasons). These two cards (and any creature that cares about amounts of cards in graves) open up a rather easy alternative wincondition by milling opponents. Dementia supercharges selfmilling since keyword Descend keeps (in mycotyrants case) count and only cares about how many "events" of "descend" have happened and not about content of the grave. So we add any shuffler like Gaeas Blessing or any of the old legal Eldrazi titans and we can safely self mill and shuffle our grave repeatedly (if we have material for the altar) for massive descent count. Double altar and a shuffler is a very space efficient insert for the deck and enables combo options for game fimishes.
@TheMagicBeaner7 ай бұрын
I like the idea of using the altars with Gaeas blessing since I don't own the titans and the price between them is crazy. What would you take out for those?

If you ever consider adding at least 1 non-permanent spell, Dread return is your card. With tons of tokens to sac, we can cheat out our top ends like Syr Konrad or Dreadhound if we happen to mill any of them.
@tienkieu48068 ай бұрын
also Species Specialist is a pretty good swap for Moldervine Reclamation as well because it is a creature (easy to recur and reanimate) and it is a "may" ability so you don't accidentally draw yourself to dead

What are your thoughts on Mending of Dominaria as a Saga in this deck?
@GrazzetMTG8 ай бұрын
I actually tested with it in the deck and, while it can be useful to get us via milling us, recurring creatures and generating a whole lot of ramp by "reanimating" our lands from the bin - the fact that is forces us to then shuffle our grave back into our deck is too much of a deal breaker in my opinion - since we're running far too many cards that use our graveyard that may be "turned off" for multiple turns once this happens. That said, this build can refill the bin quite rapidly, so you can still make the argument to run it for the value it provides. So, TLDR; not my cup of tea, but can still be useful.
@yenchitan72768 ай бұрын
@@GrazzetMTG ah. Make sense. Guess that saga works better for land fall decks with around 40 land count.

The lack of Sivriss hurts me. Three descend triggers a turn, card advantage, life drain. It's great
@connoristheone8 ай бұрын
4 mana and you have to wait a turn to use it. Plenty of 1-3 mana cards that achieve a similar result. Value
@jackmcnally87068 ай бұрын
I really like the Mycotyrant as a self mill deck because the descend mechanic has some built in resistance to graveyard hate. Descending only cares about permanents hitting your graveyard. It hardly matters if it gets exiled later, and if it gets shuffled back in, great, you can descend even more! The ONLY problematic cards are replacement effects that stop the card from hitting the graveyard all together such as Rest in Peace, Dauthi Voidwalker, and Leyline of the Void. They will still of course prevent other graveyard shenanigans like reanimation but it’s something!

Great video and deck but This voicing is atrocious. Is it AI? Because always ending a sentence with an upward inflection is almost impossible to listen to
@GrazzetMTG8 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it. The voice is mine, so sorry I can't really do much to change that. I naturally have a very monotone voice, so the alternative would be me droning on for 30 or so minutes, which is quite possible even worst.... Maybe someday I can spring for some professional voice training/coaching.
