A nice video Lyle, and I am not sure why your views are down. You have the subscribers, and you are right up there with the other engineering channels. Please don't feel discouraged, and please keep your videos coming. I worked nearly 40 years as a toolmaker, and here I am retired for 15 years, and still learning new things. That is such an incredible facility for youngsters just getting into machine shop engineering, and even those that have been doing it for years. You are doing a great service for us all passing on your experience.

Loved the intro!! Cain, Tuablcain! - I like that Clausing Mill. I have never actually run a Bridgeport Mill. All my milling work in High School was done on a Cincinnati Horizontal Mill. A bad setup will lead to bad results. The intro to the job was time well spent. Eighteen minutes is not too long, an hour and 18 minutes of interesting content is not too long. Better than watching network TV!!!!! Waiting impatiently for the next video.

The only time he's boring in a video is when it's a video on boring. Then you can expect boring content; only then it's not boring, it's very interesting in regards to boring. So it's not boring at all although it's supposed to be. Boring that is.

Thanks, Mr. Pete! What about plunging in at the distance from the end you want, then using auto feed to advance the cutter towards the end of the shaft, then set up the automatic stop for after the cutter clears the work piece? At least you might get the benefits of auto stop and auto feed without concerns for auto stop accuracy. Just an idea I had, and ideas are like armpits...

Mr Peterson. If I want to make the end of the key seat particularly true, can I make my first few passes a thou' or two short then on my last pass cut to full length? Or would that last 1 or 2 thousandths cut at full depth be too much pressure on the cutter?

As I watched this video, I was struck by several thoughts. First: No dead horse should remain unbeaten. It's feelings will be hurt by the lack of attention. Second: I love watching that little mill work. Kinda like watching a kitten play with a butterfly. Third: Regarding a lack of views on machining, anybody who misses watching these all the way through has only themselves to blame. Fourth: Spending the most time explaining the setup and only a little time on the cut exactly reflects the reality of the shop. In most cases, the cut is (or at least should be) anticlimactic and nearly boring. That's not the place for excitement.
