When most people think of Australia, they think of our amazing wildlife. Some of our animals have built a reputation as cute and cuddly, while others prefer to see themselves as ferocious and terrifying.
Regardless of where they fall on the huggable to scary range, it seems appropriate that our coins are adorned with these amazing and unique creatures.
Now, we're used to seeing kangaroos, koalas, possums as cute & cuddly. But what do you picture when do you think of a dingo?
Do you think of cute puppies? Check out this Dreaming DownUnder range for some of the cutest Australian Animals you've seen.
Now maybe cute and cuddly isn’t your thing - cute is only one end of the Australian animal spectrum.
You’ve probably heard of the Wedge Tailed Eagle, but are you aware of how important it is as an Australian symbol?
It’s the largest Australian bird of prey, and is the symbol for lots of important Aussie organisations, including the Australian Defence Force as a whole.
Given the eagle’s immense size, it seems appropriate that it’s glorified on a huge silver coin.
This year (2021), marks the 6th entry in The Perth Mint's Wedge Tail Eagle series, designed by renowned US engraver John M. Mercanti.
However, this is only a small sample of the amazing range of animal coins that The Perth Mint has - just do some exploring on the Perth Mint site - they have lots of different animal coins to explore.
Whether you like your animals fuzzy or fearsome, there are coins here which will suit your collection...
