I volunteered with a rescue about 10 years ago before some health issues got the best of me. We wouldn't bring the mini panthers to adoption events in September and October because people would sometimes adopt them to be used for nefarious purposes on Halloween. 😭

When I went looking for a new cat, twelve years ago, when my last one died of cancer, I wasn't really thinking of getting a black cat. I actually wanted an orange one. I was at a shelter, looking at kittens, when I felt a little tug at my jeans from the cage on the bottom. I knelt down and saw this sweet little black kitten with the tiniest meow. Immediately my heart melted and I knew I had to have the little void. It was love at first sight for both of us. She's been my constant (CONSTANT) shadow ever since. I call her velcro-kitty, or little nursemaid kitty because she seeks to calm you down if you make sounds of distress (even laughter), meowing and pawing at you, jumping on your lap, purring, nuzzling, until you've calmed down. Ever since that first day I've been a huge huge black cat lover and supporter.
