My mom took me to the zoo when I was like 6 and they had a huge tiger that just woke up and he came out right onto his big perching rock and screamed this massive roar, I grabbed my moms legs and started crying telling her we have to leave we need to go. These beasts are scary, and not just to children. Your chest shakes and you feel their power just from their sound. It’s amazing.

@@TimeSurfer206 I can say much the same of an encounter with four dogs behind a wihdow door at a house.I had legitimate business (the Census). The four medium-large dogs were charging the door, and I noticed that the flimsy latch was starting t give. I got out of there. Dogs attack as if one predator, and I was thinking of a tiger. Those dogs may have thought that I was a burglar, and for all practical purposes meat. Yes, there are primal fears.

That's a yowl. The tiger is probably calling for another tiger and expecting a roar in response.

@@smaybius - The purpose of the vocalization is right... but the vocalization IS the tiger's roar. The lower and more "rrrr" sounding vocalization among tigers is their growl that is more for threatening opponents at close range. A big cat's roar is for long range communication.
