I went to my first, and last estate sale several years ago. The amount of disrespect these people had towards the previous owners things really turned me off. I'm glad you were able to have a small victory over your hat wearing nemesis.

The way resellers run, push and shove to get inside first is cringe

Reminds me of black Friday when you had to go to the store to get the deals. I did it one time. I wanted a laptop that was a steal at the black Friday advertised price. I got up early waited in line, got into the store and they were all gone. And then they popped up all over on ebay selling for double the price.

Thanks for telling a good story. I would love to do this reselling type of thing but I don’t have a the necessary vulture gene. We have found some great deals at yard sales. We recently got a really nice baby stroller for $30. They are over $100 new. We just keep it around for when our grand kids come over.

I was at an auction where a jeweler was screaming (literally screaming) because he couldn’t buy any of the jewelry at melt prices.

Resellers go hard, they are massively cliqueish, and deep down hate each other. They all start off with their own niche then they watch others that they perceive as successful and start buying what they buy. The estate sellers get more educated and leave a thinner margin so it turns into a grind for resellers who would make more with a traditional 9-5. $3 a piece for what costs $5 at a coin shop is a fair deal.

It’s kinda funny that someone pays money for coins (money) to turn around and sell them for more money which they then pay bills with lol

Thanks for sharing , sooo busy with grands , n wife. Never seems enough time to do the estate sales . My late mother furnished four of my sibs homes when they got married.. and she had her own sales ( two car garage would get full of deals n the small barn we had n back)… BUT She did get me a slew of top end 1/25 Cox slot cars ,model cars and first series matchbox cars ( two large smith millers too) . I do have 90 per cent of that stuff - it all came from one estate sale … in the 60’s I don’t think she spent $20

I hate resalers and early birds. The last yard sale I put on, my signs said, "Starts at 7:30am." An early bird who was a resaler comes knocking on my door before 6:30 am. He admitted he knew he was early and wanted to make an offer. I told him to GTFO, and I'd rather throw everything away before I sell anything.

So Jeff thought he was going to leave an estate sale an hour before it opens, which is no where near early enough for most yard sales, do all kinds of errands, eat breakfast, and mosy down to where there are silver coins for half off and flip flop thru the door swinging neck knives and bojanglin over to a table full of silver that isnt even a lot of stock...and just throw it all into his McMuffin bag and roll home for a day off. My God Man. 😳

Yaa i hate but get resales. I get and respect them making money instead making money other ways but at the sametime im like ugh lol. Even at garage sales all the good stuff is gone. Its like i want this or that for me or my kids but resalers buy it all up and sale it. 😢😅

The youtube channel Pro Picker gave me an idea as to what garage sales are really like as I have never really gone to them, just had the same idea of what they were as you. Knowing well what they are like now, and the things people look for, its definitely interesting but I agree with you that the competition is too much. So I guess if I want a vintage camera, ill be buying it from the resellers that get there early. My neighbor just recently had a garage sale and my little backroad street in the woods became a highway with the amount of traffic back and forth. Far from a neighborhood activity anymore, unfortunately.
