Because chris was an adventurer liked to travel. So shin took advantage of that and his e mails as chris seemmed to be true. That gave him time to cover his trail s and the body. So a crime scene without body and weapon gives the defendant a fighting chance at the court. Even to this day the killer builds his own defense to that. No body , no weapon, it was an accident. Thats why he even now that he got life sentence does not tell anyone where the body is. Gives him a last fighting chance. The mails seemed to be true to his family , they thought Chris left to travel so the killer got time to hide all the trails

It’s universal, and it’s not pertaining to skin color. @@christopherlincoln4550 that's what i meant i was being sarcastic, it was from people who were so used to seeing only people who looked like them (pale, blonde, blue eyed) that even just a darker hair color seemed exotic to them. i didn't even finish watching part 1 when i didn't even see any other parts in the recommended videos.

This format of 20/20 is very confusing and hard to follow. I’m not referring to the content. I’ve watched coverage on same stories but from Dateline and story us so much clearer and capturing. No need to rewind to get clear on who is who in the story. This inclusion of multi story tellers/anchors/reporters is just unappealing to me. I’m sure producers want to give them a spot in the story but frankly that is annoying and flustering. Find myself not finishing watching episode since I’m already familiar with the event. Top three journalists Matt Gutman, Deborah Roberts, David Muir and change format/sequence of events to convey a clearer episode
