I got my 550C about 36 years ago. I use it for single die operation and full maniac production. I like to prep and clean after sizing, so I split up the runs. When loading pistol, I usually make runs of 2,000. I tried to make an honest guess of how many rounds it has processed. I would guess I have bought 250,000 primers. So I imagine that it has cycled more than a million and a half times. I keep it oiled and covered when not in use. The only part that wore out was the primer pickup tube end. I wish Mike was still around to hear this. Thank you so very much. Great product. I recommend it everywhere.

Not to be off topic, I own a XL650 and a Hornady Ammo plant. It is like owning a Lincoln verses a Volkswagen. The XL650 is the most trouble free press I have ever had hands down. DILLON is a great bunch of professionals. And are always spot on when I need help. Thanks for a great product!!!

@@oldlyswansea I think the CP2000 is for case prep only and or case conversion. I think it’ll probably only do some of the simple case conversions like this one with .223 to 6.5 Creedmoor. But it’ll also trim and debur anything.You would need that and a reloading machine like the RL550 or RL1100.

I have all this on my 650. U need to show and also talk about how when u are cutting the brass. U will need to periodically clean out the sweeper attachment. It's the worst part about whole process. I've tried slowing down, speeding up, and different shop vacs. It's gets to the the point to where it will not suck out Chips. Also the cutter gets wound up with brass. So your having to clean it out as well. I've did this to thousands of 223 brass.the process works great. & I'm a huge Dillon supporter, they are best in the business. I own 2 machines and wouldn't ever buy anything else. So don't get me wrong. It's just that people need to see all sides of this process.

Berry's makes good plinking stuff in common weights, but I much prefer Lehigh Defense bullets (twice the price) for bump in the night shooting. As far as reloading goes, .223 and 5.56 are identical. I use CCI primers. They go bang every time and their numbering system is sane. Cases? 90% or more of mine come from the range ... I SELDOM buy cases. Powder choices can be bewildering. I've had excellent results with CFE and TAC. Progressive presses don't handle rod or flake powder nearly as well as they do spherical. I have some Accurate 11-FS on the way to try out for .300 BLK. I don't even own a .300 upper ... but I wanted to do something useful with the dented .223/5/56 I was accumulating buckets of.

Have this same equipment but using a xl650. Recommend informing your audience about the differences in the thickness of different brass cases. Although you can form any 223/556 case to a 300 blkout case, there is a high probability that you will run into issues with the thickness of cases depending on the manufacturer. Otherwise, hands down the best setup out.

The Dillon RT-1500 power trimmer does not make it as simple as stated. Even with a strong shop vac the brass collects around the shaft of the trimmer like steel wool and you must stop and take apart the vacuum module and remove the brass trimmings with needle-nose pliers before continuing after every 100 - 200 cases as reported by Dillon. “The nature of the beast” was the term used. Major Issue: The trimmer will resize and trim resized length, however stopping and cleaning brass strings and chips are necessary. Next Issue 1A: All head stamps case walls are not the same. Once resized and trimmed the former 223 or 5.56 case walls are not the same thickness and will ultimately become the case neck. CASE NECKS MUST be resized by standard die OR USE A 308 Mandrel to resize case mouth opening prior to loading and inserting bullet projectiles. Many of the reformed cases will have necks too thick to load with a .308 bullet and still chamber in a 300 Blk Out weapon without jamming in the chamber. Possibility exists it may take a gun smith to remove chamber jamb. THERE IS METHODS OF CASE PREP TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. Next Issue 1B: A case neck trimmer such as the “Hornady” after case is resized and trimmed to length then trim excess diameter to loadable thickness of maximum .0135 side wall thickness. Note it is best to resize once more prior to loading to verify neck uniformity as neck trimming can cause some deviations, not necessarily consistently. Next Issue 2: When trimming a problem of a ridge is created around the inside and outside the mouth opening. The heat of the brass during length Dillon trimming and resizing creates the ridge and is hardened by the heat of trimming. These ridges can create scoring of the bullet being seated, and can cause chamber jamb the neck trimming does not always remove as bullet has not yet expanded the mouth opening. The heated brass can be stubborn to remove on outside mouth more than inside.

I have been using a Dillon RL1050 and several 1050 Super since early 2000s. The new CP2000 for case forming and trimming with the 1600 electric trimmer. How will a Ponsness-Warren Power unit go with the CP2000??? Will a RL 1050 Motor go with the CP2000? Not going to lie I was cringing a bit watching those bullets go up into the seating die barely balanced on the case mouth crooked lol. Never felt right doing that myself. I always try to get them in a little bit and straight before they go up into the die. Maybe that's just me being paranoid.

Been cutting mine down by hand with a jig I bought. Awsome. A lot of shavings and how about the life of the grinder. Grinding a lot of brass from each case. Is it worth it. Seems like you still have to run it for the 2nd time to load it.

So how does this setup differ from the Mark VII Apex 10? With this is have to spend like $5k for a CP2000, case trimmer and forming does to prep the cases. Then the XL750 with all of its goodies to make 300AAC. Why not just install the case trimmer and the dies on a dedicated tool head with only the XL750? Prep the cases to 300AAC, change head and then make the 300AAC rounds.

You are way high on price. 1800.00 gets you the CP200 and another 500.00 gets you a Giraud trimmer which is smarter anyway. 60.00 gets you a mini chop saw with a jig. There is no way in hell to do 300 BO from 5.56 in one step anyway. Also you only lube when you prep cases not when you reload because that just makes a mess of things. I use two resizing dies when I prep in opposite stations, (1) and (5) and then I trim in my Giraud and then polish with dry corncob media to eliminate any lube residue. When I load my station (1) has a universal decapping die in it in case a piece of corncob is stuck in the primer hole. I use a powder check in station (5) at that point. I did 5000 rounds over two weekends. I use two Dillon 1050's and am going to get the CP2000 to eliminate changeover. I'm just a hobbyist and am way north of 30,000 rounds at this point. Dillon makes a great product and the CP2000 came about simply because changeovers are the pits. I also cast my own bullets because the 300 BO is at it's best subsonic. Bullets in the 210 to 240 grain range.

you can use Lyman M Die to expanda neck just little bit. most of the people do so, either as because RT1500 and trim die makes neck slightly small, or because they are using flat base bullets (like I do). Also, Lyman M Die will also remove a burrs on edge of neck after trimming.

I split up the operation. Picked up brass is wet tumbled and dried. I lube, size, swage, trim, and anneal as needed. Then I polish dry. Then, wet for a couple hours as needed. After drying then I load the clean, dry, and oil free cases. Using Dillon's priming system, the primers last forever. I ran across some that were loaded in 1987. Every shot worked perfectly.

Does this trim the case wall to the correct thickness? The 5.56 cases were never designed to be cut there, and the thicknesses vary from brass manufacturer to brass manufacturer. It cannot be greater than .014 or you run into chambering and overpressure issues.

Yeah, the trimmer is leaving a LOT of burrs on those cases from what I am seeing. I even saw a few with attached ribbons of brass. From what I saw, the lip of each trimmed case was sub-optimal. For some people that may be good enough though. The best setup I have seen for this is to use a modified Bosch router in station 3 to get the .223 brass down to height and then the Dillon 1500 and trim die to do the final shaping and cutting of the mouth of the brass in station 6. If i was going to do a lot of these resizings to 300, that is the setup I'd get.

@@DillonPrecisionVideos well thats not entirely correct. I'm not trolling, I have the set up on a xl650. I asked the question after I tried making a few pieces. I had first run the brass through the die without the trimmer to just set the sizer up correctly for headspace. They I was gonna run them back through with the trimmer to set length. I'll say that didn't work! Thats why I asked the question because I was wondering why in was spinning the case, destroying the mouth and the head it was spinning it so fast. Now... The reason why it did this is because I had already formed the neck on the first pass, and the friction of the die forming the neck it what holds the case from spinning and destroying the case. So lesson learned, set it up as you wish, but if you do it like I did in two steps. Don't run the formed brass back through the trimmer. Just throw it in the recycling ben...lol

@@country6145 you’re right. I had this same idea when I first started making 300 Blackout brass. It’s the tension in the die that holds it in place during the trimming process. I have a two die set. First is a roughing die, then a finish die. I also have an aftermarket tool head made by GSI. The vacuum hose connects directly to it and it is belled and ported for air flow.

I don't understand using case lube after case prep. why not re-size during case prep so you can tumble the brass prior to moving on to reloading the prepped cases? Or do you wipe the lube off the cases at the end of reloading?

@@ericedge525 It's because they were using a freaking resizing die instead of a universal decapping die when they were reloading. Big mistake that practically nullified the use of the CP2000. There are much cheaper ways to make a 300 BO case out of a 5.56 case
