my one pap said the reason they planted buckwheat usually was to tame the ground, that the farmer had just grubbed off to use for to plant say corn, or grain. the buckwheat he claimed would tame the ground, but they usually combined theres. hey i think i heard the turbo kick in when u was disking a few times-lol. good video!
@ElkCreekAcres

You can definitely hear the turbo when the engine goes under a load.

That's the way I set my brush hog in tall grass or corn stalks. I set it the other way in shorter grass. I hear you on those dog days, seems we've had hot weather since the first of June.

It’s definitely been hot John, it’s cooled off now though.

By the way that the discs are cutting into the soil, you could do with a little extra weight on top of the disc.
@ElkCreekAcres
@ElkCreekAcres 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, easily could, I have run 4 weights on it before. But overall it's just not necessary, we're not a real working farm, I have time for most of my projects.

Just ordered a 2038r with r1s. Debating what size disc to get. I know you have the 66", think that's the biggest to go without over working the tractor or would a 72" or even the 78" be ok?
@ElkCreekAcres
@ElkCreekAcres 4 жыл бұрын
I think the 66" fit this tractor very well. If I were buying today for this tractor I would buy the DH1166, they are about 350 lbs heavier than my 1066's. I would not be afraid to try a 72" on this tractor if you were to choose another brand than Frontier. Look at the weight of the discs once you start looking, disc harrows vary a lot by weight depending on the frame, number of blades and size of the blades.
@justinkoch8591
@justinkoch8591 4 жыл бұрын
@@ElkCreekAcres Yea they spec'ed me out the dh1166 because of its weight. I think I'll just roll with that. Thanks.
@ElkCreekAcres

@@justinkoch8591 Good choice, I had the 1066's from my 2025.

So why do you chop frist? Why not disc in the first place?
@ElkCreekAcres
@ElkCreekAcres 4 жыл бұрын
We definitely could with our larger tractors and offset discs, but with the 2038 and these smaller discs it’s much easier to cut it first.

We need rain in the worst way, it's been very dry, not in extreme drought conditions but definitely very dry.
