Your attention to detail - the way you measure things as you lay out, flatlining, trimming threads as you go - is part of the reason you get such exquisite finished products. It is inspirational! Thank you for showing the process. Fabric scrap recycles, yes? So, it's okay. (You need a dresser! A smart person could arrange a company of dressers for hire at costume college to whip you folks into your clothes and it would be fantastic. I have no aspiration to be such a person. Just a compulsive desire to 'fix' problems. This is a problem in itself.) Love the vlog.

Made all the way to the end and I LOVED this vlog! I like the time-lapse parts and it makes me think everyone should have theme music while cutting and sewing! I really do feel like I learned a lot though! I’ve only learned sewing for alterations/mending purposes so seeing the pattern cutting kind of blew my mind. And your rookie mistake with cutting the pattern on upside down fabric ... if you hadn’t said anything, I wouldn’t have even noticed! I also did a spit take/laugh with your “and we will not discuss this again”. Note to self: no refreshments while watching unless I want water coming out the nose. As always, thanks for sharing!! Hope you’re having a fantastic weekend!

Made it to the end! As a quilter as well as costumer (theatrical, non-professional - which means if some things miss getting hemmed before the show - oh well - the audience can't see it from 30 feet away...), my cabbage patch gets used. And even those scraps of poly silk would be nice additions to a quilt - especially one for textures (like a crazy quilt). I found you through Bernadette (like so many!), and since I am enjoying watching Sherlock, so I am also enjoying watching Watson. I've also enjoyed watching your pattern reviews - I made a Victorian Walking Skirt once from a Truly Victorian pattern and I remember being thrilled at how easily it came together. I should dig that pattern out and make it again - in my size this time!

Still working my way through last years vids :) Thanks for the interesting tips! Where I live, the only holidays where there isn't "garbage/recycling/green waste pickup" are Christmas and New Years Day. And then they just pick it up the next day. Woke up at like 3-something this morning (4 hours early) and couldn't fall back to sleep, gave up after an hour and am getting some peaceful knitting/youtube time but I'm going to be tired later! Still have an hour before I need to start getting kids lunches ready and waking them.

I came from Bernadette as well, a few weeks ago, but only subscribed a couple weeks ago. I don’t know why! I was still watching you, lol. I like your directions for flatlining. I haven’t had a lot of need for it, but I like your reasoning for why you don’t do the ends, etc. I had today off and had plenty of time to sew but managed to completely while away the day reading and watching OTHER people sew...... I am so jealous of you going on Jenny’s trip. I spent a lot of time on her discussion boards ages ago and learned sooo much from the folks on there like Jenny and Suzi. Life gets in the way, though and I never had a chance to make it on one of the trips. Maybe some day. That and costume college.

Good job! The lining looks great so far. I really enjoyed the footage of you cutting and sewing. Also really enjoyed the car chat and was not bothered by the background noises while you were driving. I recently also made the same "rookie mistake" on a pair of pajama pants I was making. I was cutting out multiple pairs and got in too much of a hurry, but at least the pattern in right side up to the person wearing them. I am sadly not going to Costume College but hope to be able to attend some day. You feel really relatable to me and part of that is probably because I'm a fellow Californian.

Wow Hat !!! Of course I got to the end, I always get to the end. Never mind the glasses, you will sew even more neatly now. My embroidery is much better now, but I'm the other way, I've been short-sighted all my life and when I took my lenses out I could see close up much better. If you want to give some attitude you must get the glasses that are either half moon or round, happily I believe that round glasses may be period anyway so double whammy!!!Attitude AND sight. Really important tip to always sew in the same direction! Never really paid attention to it but I automatically always did it bcs I always sew from the top down. Since I don't use patterns there is now guarantee that the pieces match up exactly, so I rather have them match up where it's important and then adjust the hem than the other way around :D
@melusinenoArashi5 жыл бұрын
Hi Noelle, I discover your channel via Bernadette. I'm a french girl, so I apologise for any of my spelling or grammar mistake. Before I had my serger, I did zigzag the edge of the pieces or if I was on a hurry, I would use a picking (?) shear. I'm awe for people capable to do costume. I take me over a month to do a simple garment, I can even imagine how long it would take me for a costume. But one day I will do a corset. When you came to Paris, just have a stroll rue Dorsel (metro station Anvers); it's at the bottom of du sacré coeur. It's Paris's fabric street. Enjoy you stay in Europe and specifically in France.

I no longer do historical re-enacting, but back in the day, I used to make duplicate clothes for my jointed wood Queen Anne doll (French and Indian War period) or for my wood and rag doll made for Revolutionary War period. These dolls would have wardrobes like mine, but smaller, of course. The larger remnants were made into things such as "Housewife" or "hussif" (sewing/mending rolls); Needle books, pincushions, and quilt patches. Sometimes, embroidered pockets, pocketbooks, shoe pouches. Wool coated with lanolin was traditionally used for needlebooks because it prevented needles and pins from rusting. If white linen or cotton, I made handkerchieves, caps, fichus and shoulder kerchieves, either for myself or to sell...The sales helped pay for the materials that I used...or for bartering with other artisans, or became impromptu gifts. I'm sure you know how that goes. Once upon a time, my pottery and needlework profits paid for a toile Robe a la Francaise...which I still have, though it no longer fits. sighs... Love your vlogs!

watched to the end. re: your evening/day dress dilemma, is there a way to make a different bodice that would let you easily switch between day/evening modes without having to change out your skirt? I seem to recall several priorattire videos where they talk about being able to switch between day and evening wear with only a change of bodice. the evening bodice would have more trim and have shorter sleeves, but would be made to match the skirt just as well as the day bodice. not as current on regency fashion to know if this is feasible or not
