An understitch holds layers of fabric together on the inside of a garment so they don't rise and become visible on the right side of a garment. If you check out my playlists on my channel, you'll find a tutorial on how to sew an understitch.

Just found your channel and wanted to say thank you I am really enjoying the tutorials. You're very pleasant to listen to and the instructions are clear. I'm also loving your nails ... lol. It's also nice how consistent you are with fabric choice for the neckline tutorials, so that we're never confused. I have easy access to white interfacing though, so at first i was confused about which one was the interfacing, but that was quickly and easily clarified

Thank you for the square neck tutorial! I do wish you had shown the understitch portion, I find the concept of understitching confusing and also when I did do it on a piece I had a very hard time at corners (perhaps I was doing it completely wrong, I do not know!) Which, is why I think it would have been a good thing to show!

I don't know what understitching is, but at least I now have an idea how to make a square neck.
@hellomaria4 жыл бұрын
Understitching is simply sewing the lining piece and the inside (graded part of the seam) together - leaving your fashion garment intouched. Sew it as near as the neck line as possible (⅛") it's a little hard to explain but im sure there are tutorials on how to understitch here on youtube. Must try, it give the garment a professional look and wonderful results in the long run ❤ love and light to all

What, if anything, would you do differently if the horizontal part of the square neckline was sort of a v shape, kind of like a sweetheart, (besides the reinforcing stitching at the v) and if using silk?
@colleenglea3 жыл бұрын
Choosing the right type of interfacing is going to be key, this will give the extra support to stabilise and keep the shape, I hope that helps Beth.

Colleen Great video as always. I think it will help me with a challenge I am having. I cut a square out of material so I can insert vinyl to make a window between it and another piece I also cut a square out of. I stitched around the box and cut out a smaller window then cut slits to the corners to turn them in. I interfaced the piece but it is fraying at each of the corners. I then tried a sort of facing and it is not folding in as desired. Should I put interfacing on the facing and the original item too before slitting, Please confirm you are cutting the slit to the very corners as it looks like you area.
@colleenglea9 жыл бұрын
Lucy B Yes, interface the facing and also use lightweight interfacing on the garment area and stay stitch the corners.

When pressing a neckline (giving a good steam press) the interior seam allowance, even after its graded, can be very obvious, spoiling the look of the neckline.

The advantage of the video is that you can turn it on and off as you follow step by step very clear instructions (with no noisy nusic bellowingin the background) Please do not feel phased as you will allow a little fear in and that is the last thing you want. Find some old fabrics or unused cushion covers and you will fly through this!!! I know you will
