My dendrobium is 4 1/2 yrs old and flowers constantly. It obviously loves its location, on a table right by our patio doors, getting the light. It is so beautiful.

Thank you for your suggestions; I've repotted the whole plant so will leave canes unless they become dried up; am waiting for the keikis on one of the canes to develop longer roots, as per your suggestions, and then will repot those keikis;

That moment you are educated about orchid growing and your family member asks you about cutting Dendrobium pseudobulbs or Phalaenopsis roots and the only thing you can think about is "wtf?!" :Dx I really love how an luscious orchid with many bare-leaf pseudobulbs looks like!

This is very helpful, but I think there must be some exceptions to this rule. I have two dendrobiums that have canes that are so long, over three feet, that they fall over from their own weight and eventually crimp the cane. What will happen if I prune these back to a manageable length?

Hiya Dani, I have some cuttings. What do I plant them in to encourage rooting????
@MissOrchidGirl Жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by cuttings, usually we don't take actual cuttings from orchids. Are the pseudobulbs actually cut, or is it a division of one or multiple pseudobulbs?

is it possible to recover the dendrobium orchid if a few or all canes were cut/damaged?

My dendrobium fell over and a young stem was detatched with three tiny roots. Is it worth replanting or can I make cuttings of it? Thanks Dani

I recently bought this dendrobium and am now wondering what to do with the many canes; your advice seems to be to never remove any of the canes unless they are dried up and dead looking. What do I do with the two canes that had flowers that recently fell off? What do I do with one cane that has little orchids growing along the length of the cane? What about the other canes that are bare? I feel overwhelmed in not knowing what to do with all these canes Another question, when do I repot this plant; when I do, do I keep the plant whole and put in new medium, or do I separate and pot in separate pots? Thanks for any advice you can give me

1) In case your orchid is very healthy (good root system etc.) you can cut them off. The orchid will loose a place where it can store energy and water but it will be okay if its an overall healthy plant. Put a bit of cinnamon powder where you cut the cane, to seal the wound and prevent infection. 2) I would personally leave the canes that flowered alone and not cut them, rather older ones. 3) The little orchids on the cane are called keikis. In case those baby orchids are under 8cm tall and have roots under 3cm I would leave them alone. If the baby orchids are big enough you can: ● carefully cut them off at the base with a knife or take them at the base with two fingers and twist them off the orchid and pot them up. Leave the canes alone Or ●Do the same and cut the cane where they grew off. 4) You can either cut the bare canes off or leave them. Just don't cut all lf them and don't cut the canes with leaves

If there are very many leafless canes and you'd like to start a new plant, can one of the canes be cut and used to start a new plant?
