Cutting down big white oak by power lines with chainsaw & wedges. Premium Firewood & saw logs! #23

In this video I tried to fell a big white oak tree in the woods. I was not sure I could keep it off my power lines. I am using multiple wedges and a sledgehammer to attempt to steer this big ol oak! Will it work? I already messed up and cut down the wrong oak tree in video #20, oops. I am using my Makita 7900 chainsaw with a 24 inch bar to drop this tree. Once again using the Kioti RX7320 with the Ramsplitter log Grapple to get the logs out of the woods. I may be a Hard Working Man but that doesn’t mean I don’t try dumb stuff sometimes. 🤷‍♂️

😲Lil butt pucker factor when that second wedge shot right in the back cut. Gotta throw some 12 inchers in that pouch for the big ones. More is better in that situation. But, in the end it went where you wanted it to. Good job!👍

No doubt! I honestly wasn’t sure when I decided to drop this tree. As you can see I brought the big hammer out 😂.

hi there that looked perfect to me . i cut some white oak for my truck bed , put deck stain on them . one rotted the rest are not to bad ,if you cut a thin 1/16 smooth end grain cut a red oak you can see wholes threw it , a white oak you can't . that is one of the reasons they don't rot as fast and are heaver , good work john

Pack at least 3-4 wedges with you in case you need to stack wedges… I pack 4 on me and 4 in my backpack when I am production falling 8” and bigger I find is the best usually run 10”-12” wedges nice job felling tho! Never cut hardwoods don’t have any where I live

I have more wedges just didn’t have them with me then. I have fell more trees than your average home owner but definitely not a tree felling expert. Cutting more now that my kids are getting older, sports schedule load is lessening.

Definitely something I need to work on. Love that saw since I put the 79cc top end on it. Unfortunately Makita is dropping their gas saw line.

Your face cut looks really small. Also it looks like your back cut is coming in below the notch, I tend to struggle with that. But it went down safely and that’s all that matters.

Face cut could have been a little bigger. I started above on the back cut but had a slight angle downward so it ended about even. Definitely should have been higher. I too struggle with the bigger trees.

Don’t put much stock in what this Joe guys says. The largest tree he’s felled is 16” soft maple that he left a widow maker in it. Complete moron!

Like I said I’m by no means an expert but do drop a lot of trees. Definitely need to improve but that’s what it’s all about.
