Cutting Fabric for Cozy Wonderland Nightingale Quilt

Lets talk cutting! I love to cutting fabric for a new project, it is very exciting to be working on something new but a new project can go south very quickly if cut incorrectly.
Here are some tips for cutting that will ensure perfect cutting every time!
- Stand while you cut: Standing allows for more leverage and control while you cut and allows for better pressure on the ruler than when sitting.
The explanation for why I am sitting is a very long story that has to do with a broken chair, lowering my table and then sitting in another broken chair!
- Use the correct ruler for the project: Use a variety of rulers while you cut. This ensure more accurate cutting, less awkward movements with rulers that are too big, and its fun to collect all the ruler! My go-to rulers are Creative Grids and my go-to sizes are 6.5 x 24.5 inches, 6.5 x 12.5 inches and 3.5 x 6.5 inches.
- Cut 1 fabric at a time to start: Get to know your cuts and your fabric before you start stacking fabrics. I always start by cutting the fabric one piece at a time until I am comfortable with the measurements. Once you are confident in your cuts, feel free to stack 3 - 4 pieces to cut at one time. I ruined a project more than once by mis-cutting stacked fabrics from the first cut.
- Change your blade: If the blade isn't cutting like butter, its time to change! Or at least flip it to the other side ;)
- Enjoy the process, keep yourself organized and know its almost time to sew!
