The 268 is running good! I have had the best luck with carlton and Husqvarna x-cut chain in hardwoods so far. They consistently cut 3x the amount of trees before needing to be sharpened. They last longer and cut back on time spent sharpening which saves $.

I noticed the last holtzforma chain I got was a different profile from the previous ones. It won't be just the chain stretch, the imperfections on the bar would be flattening out making less tension. The chains I find are good the bars are good for the price but a little soft. When you have a limited budget and too many saws to put bars on what are you going to do. Cheers Tinman

Didn't think about the initial bar wear in making the chain looser too. Wonder just how much that affects things?
@modarkthemauler
@modarkthemauler 2 жыл бұрын
The initial bar wear is extra on those painted bars. So yeah the stretch is a bit exaggerated on a new bar and chain combo. Edit: the holtzforma bars are not painted but I meant painted bars in general.

I been running the archer bars and chains with pretty good success price is about the same the bars are tighter and stiffer just from watching the video the chain stretches some the first use but after that it's good for me I buy spools that way I can make my own loops it works for me because its 30 miles just to get a chain made up thanks for doing this because alot of us just cut our own firewood and we don't really need pro level bars and chains.

That 268 is a beauty those bars and chains look very passable for the average firewood guy, definitely some qc issues but I think for just a cheap bar and chain for the average guy, or as a low cost option for project saws I dig 'em well enough.

ive used them and they just seem abit flimsy. i wouldnt use them for treework but for a guy cuttin some firewood youd be fine. but if your workin em hard and trying to stump a 4 foot oak stump they can get messed up in a hurry. the weak spot i noticed was where the tip meets the bar. also a good choice to let a guy who hasnt cut as much use and not have to worry about a 200 dollar bar get bent by someone who doesnt know any better. my boss puts em on a few saws that the ground guys use because they are were always tearing bars up and he was tired of brand new stihl bars getting messed up by the ground guys by getting them pinched or hiting the dirt then trying to horse the bar and bend it cuz a dull chain and they get in a hurry. not as much of a problem as it was cause we quit letting guys run the bigger saws that didnt know what they were doing and let them use the joncutter 5800s which for the money are great litle saws in my opinion

Hi Tinman!!😀😀 Go back to the beginning of the video and look. You didn't have the chain very tight before you started. So I don't think the chain stretched that much for the first run. I've been running them and all the ones I have been using haven't stretched any more than any Oregon chain I have had. For the money I feel they are a great deal. Those chains are square ground from the factory. That's why they don't have much of a hook in them. When you are tightening the chain you need to hold up on the bar while adjusting the chain and tightening the bar and the chain will stay tight longer. Take care my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al

Really interesting. Especially the stretch. My first port was a 25cc certa (cheap chinese), it had a 10" bar and was great for pruning/small stuff, the initial stretch on the chain after about half a tank was amazing and I was thinking about checking chain stretch when it came off the bar and the catcher grabbed it. Amazing amount of stretch like this one (but much smaller). Good learning exercise. Nice video. Wish I was there to help.

Hi Tinman. I strongly encourage you to run about ten tanks and then check the bar. My experience is that the steel is very soft and bar is trashed after what I would consider less than a year homeowner firewood usage. If you rarely use the big bar maybe that is ok. GB 32” bar for $72 seems like a better option to me.

I ran some 3/8 LGX one time on a Homelite XL925 with a 32" bar and idk if it was just the low speed grunt of an XL925 or if Oregons steel wasn't that hard that day but it stretched so bad I had to adjust tension 3 times to get a face cut and back cut in a tree that was a little bigger than bar length haha

I like to get cheap chains as a backup to an Oregon or Stihl, great to have with in case something happens. I also tend to put them on whenever I have to cut wood that's dirty or close to the ground. I'd rather cry over 10-15 euros instead of 30-35 for a 20" chain (I live in Greece). These long bars get me drooling, but they are tough to run on my 52cc....

The 670 also had a unique air filter to go with the raised filter cover, I don't see them too often anymore, usually see the 630 style filter on them now. It is said that the 670 had the hottest ported 50mm cylinder on the chassis. I know the last one I did ended up cutting circles around my also ported 272....
