Every video you do cutting geodes reminds me of my dad and how he opened dozens of rocks and clay balls for me because I was convinced they held treasures. What they ultimately held was lovely memories of my dad encouraging my love of rocks. Thanks. 💕

So I really didn't know there were so many stone fanatics, like me! Colleges sell off excess geo specimens for folks who want to learn about different minerals/stones, so I have some of those. One year, for my brother's birthday, I ordered a sack of geodes. He opened it and laughed, "Glad it's not a sack of coal, but WHY would you...?" I led him and our family out to the (concrete!) balcony where I laid out 4 thick towels to wrap the stones completely. One by one he cracked them open with a big hammer, and they were all amazing--not a dud in the bunch! I watch you carefully using your saw, and you have won my weekly internet AGAINST ALL ODDS--HERO! I will live vicariously thru all of you confident owners of power tools🎉 I really like all my fingers, and despise the ER.
@tonib.30164 ай бұрын
From what I've heard the saw he uses isn't really capable of cutting your finger like saws meant for wood. Don't quote me on that tho but I'm pretty sure that's correct.

Our local gem and mineral club sells geodes by the ounce every year as a fund raiser for the club. You choose the ones you want. They will cut them on a lapidary saw for you. It's super popular.

Taking about differences in the halves of geodes, I bought some geodes in SD and had them sliced open. One of them was solid but had quartz in the lower half. One side looked like a buffalo (appropriate for the area). The other half looked like the “Kilroy was here” character, It was hilarious. Love your videos and especially being able to watch your excitement when you cut these agates open. Everyone should enjoy their work that much. Good Bless👍❤️

With the different sized crystals in the 2 halves of the same geode: the crystal size depends on the speed the crystals are formed, which depends on temperature. If I remember it right, the longer the rock takes to cool, the bigger the crystals. So maybe the side with the smaller crystals cooled quicker, e.g. if it was exposed to the air while the other side was in the ground so more insulated. Something like that.

I think the one that you say isn't a geode. I think there is one in there. You just have to slice off a knither slice off of there on each side and I bet you, it's a double geode side by side like that instead of top and bottom. It's side by side if that makes sense.

I wish you could do more science. How do agates and geodes form? Has anyone covered this in the comments? When my son was young and very interested in fossils, especially dinosaurs, we were members of the Houston Gem and Mineral Society. I would make cabochons while he did projects they had for children. I have since moved away. Are there any of you members watching these?
