We grew Peas for Birdseye one year and Made a killing on our Pay out that they paid us. If I remember we grew like 50 Acres or so. My Mom and Grandmother froze peas for the freezer and fresh peas were good eating. We chop the pea vine for the Cows and they were in heaven eating them. Of course it was not fun in the milking parlor when they decided to poop. LOL whew it stunk .. The great times of being a Farm Kid.

This is so relaxing. Miss growing up on the big farm. Lucky I live just around the corner though. My dad and uncle now take my grandkids for rides. Circle of life. Thanks for sharing.

This is very neat to see - our family grows about 1000 acres of 40-10 forage peas for seed every year in Manitoba, Canada. We process them on farm and then many are exported to the US so it is super cool to see them being grown and harvested for silage.

Hi Not sure if it's the same but when they harvest peas here the smell is amazing. I have a larger dairy farm nearby and have never seen a cow outside. He grows alot of corn for silage. Thanks again for bringing us along.😀

Thanks for sharing your farming experiences. That's a good crop. We've had just too much rain this year. I'm also a Michigander, just further south. May the good Lord bless you and yours.

Learn something from you every time, Rhonda! A year late to this post...kept hearing farmers talking about their peas but didn't realize you were using them for cows! Heh, how things have changed. And planting oats for the peas to grow on! Thanks so much for sharing, you are educating America.

I like that you and Kevin grow what some people would call unorthodox crop's for your cow's.Im from central Massachusetts For the most part, local farmers in our area wouldn't gamb trying a non proven crop.

I know am couple years late..lol but nice lookin crops their. Thanks for explanation of describing why the peas lean or fall over yer right I mowed a field that had a bunch of hairy vetch layin on the actual grass or sometimes the clovers even alfalfa. It was kinda messy to cut especially for a sickle bar haybine but our cows loved it for hay especially on the right stage. Other than that good video ma'am.

Thanks that was great info. We're putting it in 20 acres tomorrow more for soil health and grazing. Just wondering does it have to be chopped for silage or can you get away with just mowing it? Thanks

@@acresofclayhomestead we planted for grazing/ and leaving the residual for the soil. Just curious about the silage only because you guys are mowing. Is it just mown or also chopped into smaller bits for silage or hay?

Tell you my secret..I plant them same 60/40 blends of pea and oats..but come back and double crop interseed it with TEFF grass and Triticale and Boom 💥..your relative feed value hits the roof and you will have the fattest heifers all winter if you bale wrap!
