A proper height cutting table is like a gift from God! I have one that I scabbed together from thrift store finds, it’s even on castors and I love it! I found a high chair that I can pull up to it and sit and work on projects, it’s perfect. I think the whole setup cost about $50. Happy sewing to you as well.

wow that's awesome! I do agree about the proper height. It makes things SO much easier especially as I get older and develop more aches and pains 😂

I love the bright colors also. I read the book Color Me Beautiful. I like most of what they recommend but still I wear what I want and what makes me happy. Your table is really nice and looks very functional. My sewing room is small so I can only get so much in. I have one of those plastic Walmart tables. It works just fine for me. I spent most of last week in my sewing room. I managed to finish my bootstrap pants form and get it up on a IV pole and do a couple of muslins. I’m almost finished with a real skirt. Tomorrow hopefully I’ll find out my surgery date (gallbladder) so sewing might come to a screeching halt. Loved bright blue underwear.

you have a pants form from bootstrap?I'm going to have to look that up and hanging it from an IV pole is genius. I also read "color me beautiful" back in the day but that was so long ago I can't remember what they said 😂 I've pretty much always worn bright colors because they make me happy but it was interesting to read about the psychology behind it. Good luck on your surgery!!🤗

Cute cutting table, Gini! My cutting table plan is to use some bookcases and Michael’s Crafts storage cubes. I’m trying to find room for a small kids space, which will be a smaller walk-in closet. By using these items to create my much needed cutting table, I empty that closet and I get my table! However, it does mean I have to either repurpose a table or sell it. Your table top repurposes a table top… yes, that table top is getting measured here in a few minutes😀

that sounds fab Cheryl! I almost bought a new table top. It occurred to me, at the last minute, I could just remove the one I had and use that!

I’m so spoiled, my son is a custom cabinet maker and made me my sewing studio cabinets. He just made me a window seat for the kitchen nook. I’m setting that area up as a little hand sewing area.

Hi Gini, the sort of blush colour you are wearing in your (most likely hand knitted by your good self) jumper looks so great on you. And your cutting taable is amazing. I'm lucky enough to have a dedicated sewing room but it isn't anywhere near large enough for the cutting table of my dreams. What you have done there looks perfect. The colour book you mention looks so interesting to me. From time to time I try to figure out what colour season I am and it does my head in, I really dont think I am what I "should" be 😂. Really there are only a few colours that I dont ever wear but I like the idea of investigating dressing in colours to suit my personality. Rabbit hole here I come!!
@thebigsewalong
@thebigsewalong 28 күн бұрын
thanks Catherine! oh it's a rabbit hole alright 😂 I think I've pretty much stuck to the same colors most of my life (with maybe a slightly dingier version in the 90's 😂) but I found the psychology behind our color choices really interesting

Cutting table looks so great! Very functional and convenient. An exciting addition to your space, I'm sure. Do the t-shirts have any stretch? I would've thought the underwear needed some lycra in it, but maybe not? I have made the Megan Neilsen Acacia undies, a free pattern, a few times and they're quite comfortable. Keen to see what you get rid of, Gini! PS, you look beautiful in that jumper x
@thebigsewalong
@thebigsewalong 28 күн бұрын
thanks Faith. You don't really need lycra or spandex in underpants but you do for bralettes that pull over your head and you have to be aware that most undergarment patterns these days are made for fabric wi 50% stretch so you might have to size up in the undies. The ones I made from seamwork are fine without sizing up but who knows how they'll hold up while wearing. Nothing worse that droopy underpants 😂

Never had my colors done because i wear the ones i like - which are the same ones you prefer. I want cheerful intense color!
@nommh
@nommh Ай бұрын
in my experience it is mostly about warm or cold hues whether they are pastels or intense. I can do greens blues a very cold greenish yellow. On good days I might do magenta. Put me in orange or cinnamon or god forbid warm bright red and I look like a ghoul. I also find it may be a matter of age. My younger skin could do with more colours than my present skin.

I have pretty much always worn the same colors and anytime I've had my "colors done" I've been disappointed and didn't follow their guidelines anyway 😂 I found this book really interesting because it talks more about the psychology of our color choices but bright cheerful intense color for me no matter what anyone says 😂
@thebigsewalong
@thebigsewalong 28 күн бұрын
@@nommh I kind of feel the opposite, as I get older and have less color in my hair skin lips etc I feel like I need more color in my clothing. On the other hand I almost always wear bright lipstick so I'm sure that's part of it too.

For those of us lucky enough to have an actual sewing or craft room, would you agree that it is your HAVEN?! It is mine, I sometimes wish I could just move into it and leave all else behind! And Gini..the other day in Glastonbury I saw some silver and some gold dr martens (style), no yellow though. I thought of you! X

You've made my dream cutting table. Congratulations! Bamboo/cotton is a dream for undies. I make all of mine. Regarding your husband's tees. My encouragement would be only use cotton/spandex. 100 percent not stretch enough and can be used for crotch liners.
@lovemesomeslippers

My grannie panties are 100% cotton. No stretch and I never noticed. I guess it depends on what you’re used to. I think I’ll try your bamboo suggestion.

thanks K3. This first pair of undies was "fine" in 100% cotton but, as I said to another commenter, we'll see how it holds up upon wearing. Drop crotch pants are one thing, drop crotch undies? not good! I do have some rayon bamboo knit in my stash so I'll try that next time 🤗

Love the cutting table. I don't need to take a color quiz, I prefer wearing black (with some grey/white and denim) and I'm sure it also suits my personality, lol. You know you can make yarn from those tee shirts, right? I've crocheted rugs from it but now I cut thinner continuous strips and make jewelry, a form of macrame. I buy old tie dye shirts for my stuff when I can find them. Oh, you will understand my excitement over this. Today I was at Savers and found a queen size duvet cover in 100% linen! Both sides are the same grey linen, about a medium weight, so that should give me about 9 yards of fabric for about $16. I found a white linen twin top sheet with hemstitching last week for $3.50 so I'm very happy.

OMG, everything about your comment makes me excited! the knitting with cut up t-shirts!!! I'd love to see that! And duvet covers are THE BEST for up cycling. I've just finished using the last remnant of a corduroy duvet cover and in total, I've managed to get a pair of wide leg pants, a knitting case and a bag out of it all. very satisfying. Are you on instagram?
