I think the whole lagenlook style is more about the art of the fabric and the design than the figure of the person wearing the clothes. I appreciate that about it. It looks good on everyone. I'm definitely team drop crotch. I wear dresses over pants almost every day. It's practically my uniform. Love this look! What is "flattering"...... does that mean skinny, does that mean feminine, does that mean close-fitting.....I like them as they are simple to wear, they are usually flat front, they are flowy, artsy and feel good. I don't need to look "feminine" to be me. My favourite pattern is Vogue 1355. I am in the middle of making the ZW Block pant and I think they will be a firm favourite. Thanks for your vlogging Gini!

I love seeing the wide variety of d-c pants you build into your wardrobe! I WISH i could do the same! For me, it's a sensory and function problem. I'm currently plus-size but have had heavier leg meats at all sizes, so the lower crotch makes the entire garment drag around my body with each stride, as well as the uncomfortable thigh friction others have mentioned. I love the style, and i think playing with volume and proportion is much more fun than traditional fit goals. I just can't imagine a garment that would allow me to feel comfortable in my body while wearing drop crotch pants. and while anti-chafe shorts are an option, it seems weird to have to add them to pants :D If any plus-size folks have a particular type of dc pants that work for them, i'd be curious to try. There's so many variations in volume and shape, maybe something would work?
@thebigsewalong25 күн бұрын
A number of other comments mention the thigh situation as well, which is something that hadn't occurred to me. I carry my weight in my middle so I have other issues but I honestly would not add undergarments to anything in order to make them wearable for me.I just hate the idea of adding something to make a garment "work". Thanks for the comment 🤗

Thank you for addressing the DP issue. I was very interested in reading some of the comments and it made me more aware of why I don't like them for myself. I too am a woman of size and think the extra fabric would just make me look heavier and draw more attention to the area I don't need to draw attention to. On the other side I think clothes that super tight are not attractive either. But I do believe that we each need to make the choice to wear what makes us feel good and beautiful, and I appreciate the fact that we come in all shapes and sizes and tastes. I love to see women who wear something different and "edgy" no matter what their shape is. Maybe it gives me more confidence to try something different too. Any way thanks for what you do.

Absolutely team drop crotch! I love how “boxy” they look. I also love a good boxy tshirt or sweatshirt. Flattering has a place, but I would never use it as a rule. I much prefer to have fun with my fashion and don’t dress to look “thinner” (which is what I equate flattering to mean). Drop crotch is an esthetic of its own, and I’m into it 😂

I think some people are under the impression that clothing should always highlight your most conventionally attractive features and mask the others. That’s not why I buy and make clothes. I like wearing clothes that show a designer’s point of view, that have an interesting architectural shape, or amuse me. The drop crop pant is certainly comfortable, and has its origin in the Persian sirwal. It’s also cool and weird to some people, which makes me happy because I’m somewhat of a contrarian. Your mileage may vary!

I like harem pants cut in the historically-correct way, which is zero waste, because historically, all fabric was hand made, from fiber to weaving! A triangle is removed from the bottom of what will be the inseam, only a few inches wide but between 1/4 and 1/3 of the full length of the fabric -- 4 triangles in all. That piece is sewn to the inseam above where it was removed, positioned so that the longer straight grain of the triangle is stitched to the straight grain of the inseam.

I'm going to look up the historically accurate version! Thanks

Such an interesting question and definitely a good way to measure the aesthetic of your viewers! I'm anti-DC. The primary reason is that I think it throws off the proportions of the body. A lot of comments here talk about being short and it not working for that reason. I just think it implies a way longer torso. There is also the cultural consideration and the general look of it being a distinct fashion. I do think it works with Lagenlook. But I have a much more tailored approach and I wear dresses and skirts anyway - so there you go.

Hmm, when people say a style is not appealing, I would have to ask "to whom?" I mean, do we wear garments to please ourselves or other people? In other words, it's personal style versus fashion and trends. I'd vote for developing a personal style over conforming to fashion's dictates any day. That being said, I do acknowledge that it's helpful to take into consideration one's build, body shape, and style personality. There are people who look amazing in classic preppie styles and others who look best in oversized dramatic lines. Big baggy pants do not complement every body type, in terms of balancing the lines of the garment with one's bone structure, height, softness or angularity, and so on. However, I couldn't say they are just unflattering across the board, on everyone. More importantly, the clothing we wear should be comfortable for our personalities as well as physically. If I look great in a certain style but feel too self-conscious wearing it, why should I? Regarding dropped crotch and harem pants, it's possible a more close-fitting style would be more outwardly appealing on some folks - but if those folks are happier wearing billowy, oversized garments, who are we to judge?

@Badoura25 күн бұрын
I like the look, but just like @laprunminta, the chafing and implementing anti-chafing undergarments to offset said chafing seems counter to the 'comfort' the look implies. Then there's @witchcrafting who states; they wear dresses over trousers almost everyday and that the style is more about the art and design of the fabric, in which case one loses the drop crotch look since most lagenlook dresses that I have seen would cover the drop crotch almost completely leaving possible bulk around the area most of us want to avoid bulk around. I prefer the look of pantaloons like the tina givens Plinka, where the interest is at the bottom of the trouser leg rather than one's own bottom

I think it all depends on what each person is comfortable wearing. I don't think I'd ever wear full drop crotch pants but I do like the loose, big leg pants with a very slightly drop crotch. Rather than wear extreme drop crotch pants, I'd wear a skirt that had some interesting style elements such as draping or pocket features. I've tried to wear clothes outside my comfort zone and I never feel at ease. My theory is "We are what we are"!
@thebigsewalong25 күн бұрын
I think it's fun to experiment with my clothes but I also have a comfort zone and I know if I step outside of that not only will I not feel good about myself I will feel like an imposter. I think we all have to recognize that we can like something without having to incorporate it into our own style AKA "We are what we are" 🤗

I would have been all in for drop crotch pants for myself, but they are not comfortable, for me and I decided to not wear anything that I can’t comfortably wear. For some reason I feel constrained in movement by where they drop. Some cuts are too low that constricts walking and sitting and crossing my legs. Also the issue for me is the proportion, they don’t make me feel attractive. However, I am for them, for anyone that feels comfortable wearing them. I support any clothing cut or style as what we wear is very personal. ❤
@thebigsewalong25 күн бұрын
I've had a lot of comments mentioning the lack of comfort in these pants which is something I hadn't really considered. The only time I wore anything close, was some harem pants when I was in Africa and women needed to wear skirts or pants that look like skirts. They worked great there, very comfortable and breezy and actually didn't look too bad on me. However, in general, whilst I love the creative, 'I'm an individual' type of vibe they give on others, they're just not for me. And that's totally ok. x

I think that drop crotch pants and skirts are interchangeable as items in a wardrobe. They both have drape and movement and take up similar visual space. I get drop crotch because I have minimal hips to keep my pants up! I made the japants, which I like but i struggle with the more harem style pants because of the short leg thing. I do hate the word flattering for the express reason that it’s code for the wearers figure and if that person can be made to look thinner. I’m drawn to the Laganlook style because I want my clothes to be comfortable and expressive of my person. I thought later Gini, what if you added a second waist band, to lower the crotch without changing the shape or drape? Even a yoga style band if the waist could accommodate the hips?

I’m never going to wear D-C trousers myself, as they look really uncomfortable to me - part of that is personal because I have stomach issues so can’t wear tight things on my waist, and would be in constant fear of them falling down! But each to their own and the most 'flattering' things anyone can wear are the ones that make *them* feel good. The honest discussion is interesting, but you don’t have so many ardent followers here because you're just sewing the high street/fast fashion trends. 😊

I dislike the word "flattering" as well, for all the reasons you (and many others) mentioned. After I originally read your comment, I went back and re-watched my video and was horrified to find I'd used that word about a dozen times! For that I apologize, I realize that's a triggering word for a lot of people and really didn't mean to contribute to that. As for the honest discussion, I can see how the question might come across as "preaching to the choir" however I've really learned a LOT from viewers mostly about the physical challenges or wearing this style. Anyway, I really appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective 🤗

@@thebigsewalong Oh, no, Gini - I’m sorry - I didn’t mean that the way it seems to have come off! (I am laid out with the worst cold I’ve had in years, and obviously my brain is as stuffed up as my nose and lungs!) You were talking about people who didn’t like the drop crotch style, and asking if they could unpick their reactions to them, not using 'unflattering' the typical societal way. The honest conversation bit was really about the OP's comment, which seemed to be asking a question out of genuine interest. It would annoy me to be told something I loved wearing was unflattering, but I just admire your sense of style and am glad you aren’t deterred by anyone! My Granny used to say 'droopy drawers' too, though I can’t quite remember the context! Not about herself, for sure, as she wore a girdle even in non-air-conditioned Maryland heat and humidity. And high heels because she was short. I did not inherit any of that willingness to suffer to look thinner and taller from her!

Hands down, drop crotch. I prefer any pants with fuller legs, interesting cut, etc. I can't stand tight clothing. I see so many women, young & old, in really tight tops or skinny pants ( and leggings that were never created to be pants) that are not even the right size and can't imagine how uncomfortable they must be, not to mention the rolls of flesh on full display. I have no desire to show off my figure (especially my full bust) to anyone. I don't dress for others pleasure, I dress for me in hopefully artistic ways to fuel my own sense of creativity. I don't actually wear that many drop crotch pants but like a wide leg crop or ankle length barrel or that wonderful Aura pant pattern that I have too many pairs of already. Also, all my tops are at least tunic length. That said, I don't like the style crop you made from the instructions. Don't care for all the volume at the inner crotch, I don't find it asthetically pleasing but I'm not certain why.....maybe it seems off balance if you know what I mean?

I do know what you mean Charlotte, I think maybe too much volume for the length? Not sure but it's not my fave either.

I think the drop crotch would work great for those wearing adult diapers….

I admire your determination, the drop crotch pants just aren’t flattering 🤷🏼♀️ they remind me of someone with a full diaper that needs changed🤦🏼♀️ , I love the look on you but it’s not as flattering as your other pants 👍🏻
