Hi Gini, I liked the first dress in large and think the longer length is perfect😊. You have such a great imagination, some of the dresses you pick just don’t appeal to me at all, then you make them and they are just lovely on you. This was one of those, and I really like it with the scoop neck and the softer sheet fabric. I am looking forward to the pinafore style dress too. Also, I am looking forward to you styling the drop crotch pants. I spent way too much time reconfiguring some linen thrifted pants. I wanted to add a darted lower leg with a piping finish. Sometimes I struggle with the simplest things, especially since I already made the same type changes to another pair of thrifted linen pants. I also hemmed a rayon knit dress to a sleeveless layering piece. Sewing the lightweight stretch rayon was a real challenge. I managed to get it tied up in the needle/bobbin slot on both my serger and regular machine.😁 I even had both machines set on light knit fabric settings. I hope to finish my pants hems tomorrow. I think I need to cut out a simple dress top pattern and adjust it for future sizing of other pattern patterns. I really enjoyed seeing you today. As always thank you so very much for your excellent tutorials and pattern reviews.🤗💕

Hmm--that is a tough one. They both look terrific, but I think I'll vote for the large based on your comment about feeling tight on the shoulders/back. Just a firm no for that feeling. I like the longer length as well -- just because that is what I would choose. And yup - the 4th was pretty horrible as a fellow dog-owner. We slept in the basement and watched 30Rock, but my old husky/shep's ears were alert the whole time. She was scared despite tramadol. Whew. Glad its over. Hope your new dog bowl is keeping your pup happy though!

Hey Gini, for what it's worth, I think the fabrics are having a big impact on the two dresses---the slight crispness of the linen check, to me, is better for the TropicalResearch top and the soft bedsheet gives the sz L dress some fluidity the linen doesn't have.... I admit my bias (haha-snort! sewing humor!) though--I much prefer fluid drapey dresses. Thanks for scouting out the lesser known patterns :)
@thebigsewalong3 күн бұрын
😂😂😂 very clever sewing humor there Beth! I also prefer fabrics with drape, maybe the linen will loosen up after a few washes but right now the bedsheet is the winner for me

@@thebigsewalong Yes! Dye it to cover any stains and just freshen it up, and either before or after dyeing you could do some simple mends - maybe some darning, like zig zag stitches in either a matching thread or a variegated thread (with a patch on the back of the dress, made from your sheet scraps so as to match the fabric drape), or visible patches here and there maybe with a bit of embroidery or a button. Well-placed pockets are another option. Both dresses look lovely on you, but I think the L is more your style. Might as well dye & patch it; even if you don’t love it in the end, everyone needs a dress that looks cute and presentable but is also “not your Sunday best” for days when you might get dirty, or days when you are sick.

@thebigsewalong5 күн бұрын
@@user-sb9uk3sl6n I think you can use a fabric with stretch but, if choosing a woven, be sure that it isn’t a stiff or heavy fabric. A knit could be interesting but it will look different due to the amount of drape so, in that case, maybe something a bit more substantial like a lightweight ponte? You are amazing when you can take something like the first try and turn it into such a fabulous skirt. When you said you would be sewing the skirt, I went to my closet for a couple of linen mix skirt/coulotte type things that I hadn’t been wearing. Mostly because I didn’t know how to wear a gathered waist that has a iwide silhouette . The tops you showed were great. I played around with a few items, but will need to shorten an existing top or make a new one. Thank you again so much for sharing your process and inspiring me. 🤗🩷
