Easiest way to fix it would be. 1. Make the contraption taller 2. Put guides so the guillotine flows down smoothly 3. Add alot of weight to the guillotine

In addition to these fixes and some ruber to the impact zone of the base board and the beam that hilds the blade. This will slow the impact speed of the 2 pieces of wood so you wont need to fix it after only a few uses. Tbh a few pink erasers would probably do the trick.

Maybe take a piece of 1-2" square dowling or wood and cut it diagonally and attach it to the wood at the top of the blade to make a wedge so it won't make items get stuck. Oh and maybe a sharper blade for tougher items? I would love to see this prop stick around for a while.

The science behind the guillotine is the angle of the blade. The angle allows the blade's fixed vertical linear movement to become diagonal slicing movement (than just chopping straight through it). This is a far more efficient use of force and speed. By the way Woods, you did an excellent job in building the guillotine. 👍 I hope you guys see this.

I think maybe adding a string to both sides of it, could maybe stablize it? Cause the problem that I notice was it wasn't stable. Like it'd shift one way and then get stuck because it was unstable. I'm not entirely sure how it's be fixed, but I think more strings(possible thicker ones, too) could work.

Maybe tips to improve the guillotine - 1) thicker/ sharper blade 2) this is most important, add more weight on the blade, if it cant cut through a can of silly string can its not heavy enough (guillotines get power from height + weight so even if the blade isnt that sharp, if its heavy enough it will chop it) good video anyway keep it up!

Without doing a whole lot of research, I already have a couple of suggestions (that you likely already came up with yourself by now). Firstly, the wood holding the blade should probably be taller. It'll help keep it on the rails correctly, plus add weight behind the force of the blade, which is where you're gonna have a lot of the cutting power. The angle of the blade seems a little too steep, I'm sure there's an optimal angle that would allow the best efficiency but hey it still cuts. I'm also hearing a lot of wood squeaking, meaning a ton of friction. You can get some woodworker's wax to put in the grooves, it's commonly used for drawers and such to help with smoother motions.
