I've been watching quite a bit of your videos lately, and subscribed for your future videos. I'm really happy to see some of your tool videos to help me with my builds. This is a great idea and will most likely steal it for myself. I did have one idea to possibly make this a little better? if you add a pivot point on the stationary slide mount and a 90 or 180 deg slot and degree marks with a tightening thumb screw on the other side, you could cut various angles as well? Obviously you would have top redesign your slide mounts but shouldn't be to much? Keep up the great content!

Thanks for your video on your DIY styrene cutter, I'm so frustrated trying to make a straight cut with a ruler and X-acto blade. Im hope to build this to improve my building skills and take them to a higher level. I downloaded the stl files for your styrene cutter, I'm happy to support your ingenuity.

Sweet - you could also use the tool as a surface groover when you want material that isn't a flat plane. Like the boards on the side of a house made of styrene.

this is truly an awesome and functional piece. I'd love to have myself.. unfortunately.. all those years i spent tearing apart printers i didn't keep anything long term. i wish you're channel was around in 2000 to spark these ideas..lol. i cut a lot of styrene and I find the chopper not adequate for my needs. great job.. enjoy the breaks from the build when it's really useful.

There is a glass/tile cutter tool that works on a similar design. You would easily be able to use one of the cheap ones for styrene costs like 10-15 bucks.

Now you just need to make the same jig but with a ruler and pencil so you can mark the lines on the styrene. Also, maybe have a transparent plastic insert on the forward side of the central jig so you can see the blade/pencil? Still... pretty kickass and love that you build it all yourself.

i like very much this styrene cutting jig, i found is very useful and simple, one thing that i notice that you cut in blind because the blade is in the middle of cutting silde, also cut in blind if you have a little piece you can't reach, but if you move the blade on the side where you move to cut you can see and cut little pieces, perhaps could be a good solution is to make a customizable place of you blade. However very good project!!!

As I was watching the video I thought to myself this guy needs some bronze linear bushings no sooner had I thought that then you went to the next part of the video and installed the bushings my second thought is why not using off-the-shelf Cricut cutter blade also give your files a bath in vinegar for a couple days great video keep up the good work

Have to tried to file the shaft of the blade so the set screw sits flush? The electric motors we use in RC work like this so you can attach the pinion gear to the motor.
@BrushQuill
@BrushQuill 2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. If you add some lines & screw holes up the long edge you could adjust your acrylic rulwr to guide for 45° and 60° angles too. Though you would need to twist the blade too... maybe a point would work too to score the plastic?

if you want it to slide real smooth and dont want the messiness of oil or grease use some graphite on those metal rods you can get powdered graphite in hardware stores for using as a lube for locks or you can just use a pencil i bet you could also use your laser cutter on fast speed to etch a ruler on a piece of acrylic and then fill the etched area with some enamel paint
@CutTransformGlue

This was a fun build and good example of iterative design but unless you already have the tools and the skills to design stuff in a software package this is not for you. They sell commercial versions just this size for around a hundred bucks.
