Glad you enjoyed it Andrew! This boat may have been the exception with its weight issue and I'd have to check the specs but typically a vessel like this gets its best fuel mileage at lower and very high speeds - not in the middle range. Thanks for watching Andrew.

Currently looking for a boat for retirement. I appreciate your comment, however, how do you reconcile something that fits your dream and the budget. I find myself relegating to older boats because of budget......? Also trying to avoid inboards and opt for outboards, but, that in and of itself, puts the boat on a new level of budget 😞

Have you considered something from Jeanneau? The NC (known as Merry Fishers ex US) series would be a similar type of boat to the Cutwaters. We have an NC895, a 30’ pocket cruiser with twin Yamaha outboards and a bow thruster. It has absolutely everything. It has been an outstanding pleasure craft for day boating, weekending, and even longer trips. The size range is around 26’ up to ‘40 in single, twin, triple outboard configuration.

Well thought out plan for looking. The kicker does change the dynamics and seems to really hurt its performance. Seems to be in great condition but does not fill your goals yet. Keep looking and don't forget you will be towing this boat so you will need the horsepower for that. Good luck in your search and can't wait so see the lunkers.

The kicker thing doesn't make sense to me! How can a 9.9 kicker and maybe 12 gallons of fuel dramatically change the boats performance? That's about equal to single adult male on board.

After having followed you all thru your Loop adventure I feel as if I almost know you folk. Just finished watching the Cutwater video I have a suggestion for you to investigate on your next boat. take a look at the Aspen boats. their boats will be more stable at rest, much better running in a head chop they come both on a single diesel inboard and also have twin O/B option, interior wise a little larger more comfortable cabin an master they are also trailable. Could be a bit more expensive. As someone with lots of sea experience other than day boats on a monohull I'd recommend 10' beam or better yet twin hulls. Good luck on your search and coming adventures !!

New subscriber so perhaps you mentioned your budget earlier. Viewed a Cutwater just today, #2 in two days. After 3 oceans, 4 boats & 11 years of cruising, my take on the CW is that build quality is very good, the 26 you viewed needs more fuel for your goals, you are not best served with an inboard diesel, despite that being what we all know from past cruising, some reasons being speed, weight and small boat storage. Like Andrew, I like to work on our own boat....so don't overlook the benefits of Tugnuts and Fluid Motion where owner & factory support seems best in class. All that being said, the Fluid Motion DNA is to cram 5 quarts of features into a gallon sized hull. If that troubles you, even with the excellent info & support available, maybe they aren't your thing. (BTW clarifying budget would be helpful to us newcomers). Like your discussion style very much.

Hey Jack and welcome aboard! Sounds like you’ve done a fair bit of cruising. The 26 was a compact boat with a lot in a small package. CW seems like a well made boat. We did read online some issues with leaking from the hatches (and there were 6 on this vessel). Not sure about Andrew, but Malcolm does prefer to do his own maintenance! Like you, we are definitely in the used boat market for CW and similar type boats. New is out of our range. Thanks for watching!😎

You should strongly consider a Back Cove ( all models are single diesel non-fly bridge Maine-built boats) or their sister ships built by Sabre Yachts (all twin diesels-the smallest Sabre was 34 feet). Whether any of these would be trailerable is for you to determine-but consider compromising trailerability for a combination of diesel power, speed, reliability, a quality builder and safety . Back Cove and Sabre are first rate-my wife and I are owners of our second Sabre and the brand support can’t be under emphasized.

and hear we go lol Main ship great for the loop ( looper boat good chose)Now we are at different goals heading north for new adventures mind set you still have the main ship in your blood Trainable WEEKEND WARRIORS (YOU ARE DOWN TO 27 ft AND 8FT BEEM) road alowans and an expensive truck to pull it i had a 33 ft cruiser loved her trailer ed it all over ONT (getting it in was not a problem ), taking it out was a night mare, had to make sure wind was the right way do to draft (MEANING>>>if the wind was from the east not a chance, from the west or north west no problem. i live and breath lake Huron wind has a lot to do with what i do Travailing to Erie or Ontario or Michigan, Weather wind can not escape it.up were you are i in my age of wizdome (some will disagree)they do not know my age but keeping worm is my favour Heat is king.Perhaps i have missed something ,but that salt air gets in the blood and calls for adventure yes i could be Tom hanks on a raft talking to a coconut but i am out there

Hey Grant, it will be a change coming from the loop on a Mainship, but new adventures begin and the Great Loop was the warm-up! No coconuts in the PNW! Wanting a trailerable boat is great, but the 8.5' max beam for towing without a special permit is going to make it really hard to find a twin engine boat. I looked hard at Cutwater and Ranger tugs, but had a number of concerns with the boats mostly to do with maintenance access. I also don't like a lot of the details of their electrical systems. I don't know your budget, but you might want to have a look at a Nordic Tug 34 or 37. Both are a bit more money than the Cutwater, but they are much better built with better access. Not trailerable though without permits and a BIG truck although if all you want to do is haul the boat from where you haul it out to your home and back, it isn't that expensive to hire a boat hauler with a hydraulic trailer. If your budget is a bit bigger, you could always look at a Hinckley Talaria 34 or their sportboat 35 (outboard version). Both boats are fast, the outboard verssion is a 40+ knot boat. You can't beat the build quality, but they are a bit pricey. I only mention them because they are our local builder. Not trailerable by you, but they are twin engine boats. Of course, for any boat, fast means high fuel burn so you do need a fat wallet to run any fast boat.

We’ll take a look at the Hinckley Talaria but guessing they might be out of our price range. Definitely lots of great options and at this point trailerable is a must have option. You've made a very good point While the cut water and ranger tug are great boats, I dislike they're overcomplicated features. There are just too many things in to tight of area that are going to need attention over time. Take a look if you can find it at an ocean roomer, 26 I spent 6 weeks in BC and South East Alaska 2 years ago, and it was an outstanding trip. I recommend planning on doing some onshore lodging, given yourself a break from the small quarters of a trailable

Final thought If and when you do the SE Alaska cruise 1, you'll need about the 165nm range for the Shearwater-Prince Rupert run 2 make a reservation well in advance for a permit to go to Anan Wild Life Center

Following! My wife and I have a very similar set of mission priorities for our next boat. love your thoughts on the CW. It looks great on paper but I also wonder if is 10lbs of stuff in a 5lb box. And long term build quality. Have you considered an Arrow cat 32? it is a pretty cool boat, One big thing we are having a hard time with it only has a little jump seat facing forward next to the helm. Looking. forward to what you look at next!

It's an interesting time of life after kids leave home and you have more time to yourself! Keeping a boat at a marina brings an additional cost and if you have space to store a trailerable boat, that is a possible option. We are currently interested in Kingfisher Boats, specifically the Destination (Offshore) series. They are aluminum making them much lighter than a fibreglass boat and a good option for Canada's west coast. They come with outboards which allows them to be raised out of salt water when not in use and can be serviced on the trailer. There are many other similar aluminum adventure style boats by other manufacturers like Hewes, Eaglecraft, Walker, North River, Duckworth, Raider. Thanks for watching😎

It’s just the first boat we looked at… Ranger Tug is a slightly different hull design. Cutwater is a true planing hull and more inline with our speed requirement. Lots more to come! Thanks for watching John😎

There is no way to get a comfortable engine room in a trailerable boat. I know - I've looked. The Ranger Tug R25 has about the best engine access (for a diesel inboard), and it has side decks (although very narrow). The R27 inboard engine placement... in a word... sucks. I believe your best option (maintenance wise) is the outboard - like you mentioned. Unfortunately, outboard pocket cruisers are kind of a new thing, so you won't be finding inexpensive units on the older used market like you did with the Mainship. I looked at the Rosborough - with the interior acoustics of a Duckworth. I highly doubt you would find comfort in a vessel like that. An outboard R25, R27, or CW 26, 28 are nice boats for the area. If you plan to trailer short distances - without exception... you can get away with something more beamy than 2.6 m and a little less length. You'll want more stability with the confusing seas that occur in your planned waters - and it might make room for bigger side decks. The Nordic Tug 26 is trailerable and diesel - but slow. The boat that ticks all your boxes today? Cutwater C288 - but it's HEAVY.
