The Great Loop Begins! Untie the lines and get underway!

Today is an exciting day for us!!
The day has come for us to leave the dock and start our journey around The Great Loop!! This has been 4 years in the making and today is the day we officially get underway. We will be taking a 123 mile journey from Algonac Harbor Club (our home port) to Port Austin MI. This leg of the trip will take us approximately 10 hours to complete. Our family came by to see us off the dock and get underway. This is the start of a great adventure sure to be filled with surprises and excitement thanks for tuning in and sharing our journey with us!! We look forward to sharing all the aspects of our journey along the way.
For those who have not seen our Introduction Video. Amicas Great Loop is the circumnavigation of the Eastern United States. Cruising the loop will take you around 6000 miles. The Trip for us will be around 8000 miles with our added side trips. Looking forward to following your journey. We have boated on Lake St Clair for over a decade. Now we’re over in Grand Haven for our second season there with a Sea Ray 330 Sundancer.. Anyhow I’ll be following your channel closely. I’m interested to see your bike rack setup on your bow. Looks nice. One word of caution, don’t leave your lines on the gunwale when leaving the dock. They could fall off and foul your prop. You guys are living the dream and you have a beautiful Sea Ray! Congrats!! Safe Journey!

We will be following you here online , our plan to loop is on hold due to the fact that we have to start off by going into Canada, I know we could go right now but the way things are things could go bad quickly and we want to spend a lot of time on the canals and Georgian bay and not feel like we could get kicked out or in-between locks and have Canada shut down again ..so it is next year for us hopefully

James, we were super bummed Canada was closed. Our plan was to start in Georgian bay and the North channel but now those cruising grounds will be saved for the end of our loop. We delayed our start as long as we could hoping that Canada would open but it didn’t. Thanks for following along!!

We are expecting the bikes to be destroyed but we are hopeful they make it through the trip. We expect the salt water to have its way with them. It does seem a bit off but when anchoring out in remote places that don’t have areas to get to land or when traveling for 10-12 hours it really does start to make sense then. Thanks for following along on our adventure.
