Video helped out a ton. I had a difficult time getting the new one to seat, but once it did got lined up, it went in easy. I also damaged the threads on the ball joint stud when seating the control arm, which made the wing nut cross thread. ended up taking a dremel tool to knock off the bottom threads off the stud, which let the wing nut spin on easy.

Thank you! The rented/borrowed ball joint separator was worth getting. The tool made it so much easier.

Yeah, that tool is pretty sweet if you're trying to save the boot. The one thing I did wrong on this video is that the ball joint nut needs to stay on the stud towards the bottom. This protects the stud. Glad it helped and thanks for watching!

I liked the video it was very informative. Thank you. My car needs this done on both sides. I have bought the parts and it looks easy to do in maybe a couple of hours.

you can save yourself a little bit of time by not undoing the control nut and bolt the cv axle will fit fine through the hole. youll see what i mean when you get to that step

Although I do wish there was some audio, directions was straight forward and nice cut scenes and angles.

Thanks...and yeah, no sound. I am kinda forced into this format due to the fact that the neighbor's dogs never shut up...and the kids in the park, just a few yards away, can't stop screaming obscenities at each other on the basketball court. Plus, I am not good at narration while knowing I'm being recorded (stammering and going blank from brain farts). These are designed to be a manual-vid hybrid. You can take a laptop, tablet or even your smartphone and follow along step-by-step...without having to ask, "What did he just say? I didn't catch that". And the great part is, while following along, you can listen to your own music! Thanks for watching!

Very nice write up! Thanks alot! So many write up on the passenger side, and not enough on the driver side. I'm glad you did one where it enters the half shaft. Did you have to replace the seal on the half shaft ?
@GreaseMonkeyFever
@GreaseMonkeyFever 7 жыл бұрын
No, and luckily it did not leak. I wanted to, but the friend of a friend who owned this car didn't want to buy the seal. Thanks for watching!

Easier to remove the cv axle nut with the wheels on the ground. That is, if you don't have an air impact tool.

Just to add, you're supposed to wait until the weight of the vehicle is resting on the suspension before you torque any bolts. Doing otherwise will lead to premature wear of the bushings.

Thanks for the tip! I've never heard that, but it does makes sense. But then again, everything on a Honda is insanely torqued down anyway :) Thanks for watching!

I heard that. People over torque bolts on Honda's all day long lol and no problem my friend. Good wrenching!

had both new axles put in by a very competent mechanic the other day. (1997 honda Accord 2.2L auto)The driver side came out of the tranny and is leaking like crazy, a Valvoline oil change shop told me today. Can the shaft be tapped or hammered back in by only removing the outside axle nut? Thank you

So I am having to replace my CV inner boot, got that done, had to replace my tie rod end and my lower ball joint, have everything done, but I can't seem to get my strut to line up with the lower control arm to put that bolt it.. what would you recommend?

Is this accurate for a 96 Accord EX? And also what would be different for the passenger side? Thanks!
@ColAngus
@ColAngus 7 жыл бұрын
Yes it's accurate for a 96 and the only difference for the passenger side is that it goes into the transmission instead of a half axle and so you might want to replace the axle seal,super easy.

i noticed that your jack stand is more inward from the recommended jacking point. My question is, can you put jack stands under the jacking points or does it need to be where yours are placed ? Thanks for the video.
@GreaseMonkeyFever
@GreaseMonkeyFever 7 жыл бұрын
On most vehicles, the jack stand points are right on the body, and the scissor jacks that come with the vehicle are designed to fit in that ridge. That's OK for changing a tire on the side of the road, but when the vehicle needs to be lifted for an extended time, and your going to be underneath it, I jack it up on the frame (or the frame equivalent on the unibody). It's just a little more secure.
