I have a 35 Whelen barrel for my Encore Pro Hunter and I use it in Mississippi when I go home to deer hunt with friends. When I go out to Alaska to hunt I'll take my old Remington 700 LA that I had re-barreled to 35 Whelen. Now here in Arkansas I will be using my new CVA Scout 350 legend. I put a Primary Arms 1-6 FFP Griffin Mil reticle on it and at 100 yds with reloads I'm getting one ragged whole. Oh and I'm shooting suppressed.

You are close on cartridge length restrictions in some states, but it's 1.810 in. And the 450bm, 460S&w, 400 legend, 360 buck hammer all met the restrictions not just the 350 legend.

The H&R and New England firearms handy rifle are rugged, but they’re not well built in many cases that design is from the 1800s and if you have a problem with them repair require sending it back to the factory hidden defects that were unforeseen in the design that really makes the rifle obsolete In someways, it’s a blessing that it went out of production and that other companies like CVA and have stepped up to the plate now making better designs that are more manufacturer oval and more serviceable if there’s a problem I feel the same way a certain sense of nostalgia to the HR break open Shotgun when I finally looked at it and they could see where it really wasn’t a good design. It just was a long production design. Let me share a design that is really a classic that’s worth the money is a collectors item the Winchester model 37 that is a design and they made that from the late 1930s till about 1963. I wish somebody would resurrect that design and production and probably, Henry has done that to certain degree. I know you’re talking about CVA but I put both of them in the same category.
@michaelchen8643Ай бұрын
The New England firearms in H&R brake open shotgun and brake open rifles especially the handy rifles are now collectibles because they’ve been out of production for almost 10 years This makes the supply limited, however, like a lot of firearms they really don’t have the value of a collectible, just the scarcity I’m saying it’s best to put these firearms in perspective they aren’t worth and they aren’t worth spending the money that’s inflated

350 L good cartridge and does well in areas restricted for it but everything else the Whelen. I built a cheep one w/ Mauser action n Shelen barrel, Hogue stock. Shoots pistol bullets, 35 Rem bullets to thumping 250-275gr stop em all's. Fun do it all round that doesn't kick the tar out of ya but yes 225gr+ will let you know something had a bad day.

I bought a CVA Scout II because I could get one in 35 Whelen caliber. It was a bad gun. On the second shot it had a case head separation and from then on. In the long run I found out the head space was incorrect and sent the rifle back to CVA. They checked and agreed the head space was wrong but they did not have another 35 Whelen to replace it with. That's how I ended up with a CVA Scout II in .444 Marlin. I wish they would have created another 35 Whelen for me because I had to go buy one and it was much more expensive, but a much higher quality rifle.

Yeah the 35 Whelen is a true oldy, but goldy. I skipped the scout after I learned about the break action frame stretching when loading 35 Whelen to the proper 65k psi. Good to know. I have been wanting a stainless Whelen since i found them on the SW website late last year. Long been interested in the cartridge. Very versatile if you hanload, and a good thumper if you need it. For a long time, the only factory option was the Rem 7600, IF you could find one. They also made the 700 Classic in it one year. Also hard to find. Is that brake removable? It is hard to tell

Frank Hamer had a Rem 8 or 81 in 35 Rem with the custom installed 15 round law enforcement magazine. I think one other member of the posse had a 35 Rem as well. There were 1 or 2 Colt Monitors (BAR), and a shotgun or 2. Being full auto, the Monitors got the most lead on target. A semiauto 35 would be no slouch though.
