Thanks for the video, it was very informative. Considering that I've been trying to develop a 35 Whelen load with a 200gr bullet that would reach 3050 fps (that mystical 4k+ ft/lbs. ME) for some time now, it was humbling to see that it was done and reassuring at the same time to see that it was done. Great job! What really brought a smile was that I hadn't been using the Sierra RN bullets because Sierra says they developed it specifically for the 35 Remington (another favorite of mine) and because the 35 Rem. runs at much lower speeds thought it would disintegrate on an animal at impact with that velocity. What a joke! From your comments, not only had it not disintegrated on a 3/8" STEEL plate, but it went right through! Wow. Thanks again.

@@capncoryspoliticallyincorr2645 Sorry for the tardy reply cap'n. My comment to Last Minuteman was only the 3rd time ever I've ventured into that world, consequently I misunderstood what your, let's say, reply was, because even getting a reply from them was a surprise. When yours was finally opened, the mistake became obvious. Sorry. It's very valuable what you said about the load you've created for 250gr bullets, because after developing a load for 200gr bullets, 220-225gr and 250 gr loads will follow. Is it improper to ask how many grains of what propellent, you are using to get that velocity? Oh, on the light side, when you mention the "wallop" your cartridge packs, are you referring to your shoulder, or the target, be it buffalo or bowling pin. Peace

No problem with the late reply! I will tell the rig that I have/use. I have a 25 1/2" Douglas barrel (1 in 16 twist) in an 03-A3 action bedded in a Boyds stock with a muzzle brake. Don't remember make of the brake but it works! I use Speer HotCor 250gr bullets. As for the charge...powder is CFE223 and I'm at the high end of charge weight. For obvious reasons I can't give you the exact weight though I would approach it very carefully. My rifle handles the pressure very well. Yours may not! You can find some crazy loads for the 35 Whelen in both the latest Sierra and Speer manuals. As far as the wallup goes, the wallup would be on whatever is being shot at! Unless you don't have a muzzle brake. In that case I would contact a good shoulder surgeon before touching it off!😂😂 You are more than welcome to get ahold of me on Facebook messenger and I can give you a bit more info. Just look up Cory Hoopes on Facebook.

I love my 35 Whelen. I have a H&R Handy Rifle with a 22" barrel. I have a load worked up with a 180gr Barnes triple shock & 3005 fps and hitting 1/2" group at 100 yards. SD @ 7fps and ES @ 11. It did take some time to get this load to this point and even had a few case head cracks (due to a few thousands to much shoulder bump) This is a really under rated cartridge and I am excited about it gathering some steam with hunters. It is a kicker for sure, though it is fun to shoot. Thanks for the video!

35 Whelen is No joke. I built a custom 31" rifle on a Savage 110 action, because I read about "frame stretching" on the Encores.. I asked Thompson about it and those babies said "our rifles are built to accept SAAMI spec. ammunition" meaning 58k psi. Real 35 Whelen should be loaded to 63-67k psi. I have a 250gr Speer load that hits 3,000fps+ (5,000 ft. lbs.) with RL17, I won't shoot my steel targets with it. 🤣Thanks for sharing and giving Whelen it's deserved credit. God bless all those that served and risked everything for us.

@Paul-q3m7k Yessir. I use converted Hornady .270 WIN brass, I tested almost every manufacturer and it yields the most at 74.0gr H2O capacity (no need for AI or Brown) and it doesn't have a short neck like 30-06 conversions. I seat long and cram 115% case fill in there with a long drop tube. HBN coated bullets and barrel. The barrel was also cryo-treated. I have a NOE bullet mold that's typically 278gr lead, but yields a 180gr gas checked zinc bullet.. I've gotten that to 3,600fps. Shot through two stacked lawnmower blades, I tried it on a little 1/2" AR500 and it only made a big crater. The zinc is probably at the point of just shattering. It's an amazingly accurate cartridge as well.

Huge 35 whelen fan here. Ruger m77 with 2.5x10 scope, and 2x remington 7600 pumps. One with 1x5 scope one with peep. All sighted in 3" high at 100 yds. I dont load myself but have used most every brand and weight of ammo available commercially. Regardless of brand and bullet, the kills are INSTANT and emphatic. Not one 2nd shot ever required. Most impressive... huge 6x6 bull elk at 200 yds. nosler accubond 225gr, quartering to shot. Instant kill. Dead before it fell straight down. 55" bull moose.. 120 yds.. broadside. remington corelokt 250 gr. Same results. 180" 9 pt monster buck.. 285lbs field dressed. 150 yds. Broadside Remington corelokt 250 gr. Same results. Bulll moose..100 yds broadside. Barnes 180gr. Same results. Regardless of species or bullet... results are the same. Instant kills. Not even an ear flutter. For my northern Ontario hunting, where weve killed at up to 325 yds, and killed mostly at 50-150, the whelen is an absolute and utter hammer. I good out to 350 with confidence. And i know that anything i wanna kill, regardless of angle, is drawing its last breath as i squeeze the trigger. Period.

What you just described is exactly what got me excited about the 35 Whelen! They are effective and hit with authority; when firing it out of a CVA scout one can feel the pressure all around them. There is no doubt that this is a remarkably effective and powerful cartridge… I’d love to get one in the M77, I’d wager it’s the only rifle a fellow would need for big game hunting in North America, or even Africa, dare I say 😁

I believe that the cartridge & caliber are suited for one another! You get a more efficient burn going down the barrel by increasing the bore size.. at least with this case! I picked up a cva v2 scout a few months ago chambered in 35 whelen. I didn't like the noise generated with the muzzle break! So.. I took it off and fired away 😊 Didn't notice a difference in recoil.. so its staying off! Great job guys.. this is an easy cartridge to fall in love with ❤

The 35 Whelen is quite badass within its range limitations. I like that 200 grain Superformance Hornady load for deer hunting because it hits about like a lightning bolt! It is no joke that my blood trailing skills have been negatively impacted by that cartridge and load because so few deer even take a step after a chest shot! Now, it has a terrible ballistic coefficient and is a relatively looping trajectory beyond about 300 yards, but out to that range it hits like a Mack truck! There is just something about the combination of bullet diameter, relatively low sectional density with 200 grain bullets, and the velocity.

The first time I shot my 35 Whelen through my chronograph I had placed it to close to my bench. I had to put it back together after I picked it up off the ground. My hunting load uses a 225 grain Sierra Gameking boattail bullet pushed by 56.5 grains of 4064 powder and produces an average muzzle velocity of 2816 fps. I have a number of loading manuals and finding load data is sketchy. It varies through out my books and bullet weights aren't always covered in all books. I had a CVA Scout II which had a wonderful trigger but the rifle had excessive head space and had to be sent back. They couldn't come up with another 35 Whelen to send me so I had to buy another brand. A Lipsey's Ruger #1. I'd love to find a Remington 7600 in 35 Whelen.
