I remember going to a friend's house in the early 2000's, and seeing a Japanese rock poster on the wall. I told my friend "man, that chick on the poster would look a lot cuter if she had less makeup." He told me "uh, that's Gackt." Needless to say, that moment sent me on a decades long journey of Japanese music, perhaps only to avoid making that mistake again.

I recently started using emulators and have been having so much fun. I got into video games pretty late, so I never got a chance to play the games of these generations. It seems like games back then were made to be fun or trying to be different than the competition. I understand the necessity of modern gaming companies business practices, but there's no denying that games of that decade were more entertaining. Thanks for the cool recommendations.
@dallinjc34 ай бұрын
You are so right. Games from this time period (PS2 era) were real works of art and passion. It was a different time. Games now have lost much of that soul and personality.
@theodorejenkins60663 ай бұрын
@@dallinjc3 back in those days the only people who could be hired to make video games were people who were passionate about games. So they were always trying to actually make a good game. Pair that with most dev teams being small compared to today's absolutely huge and bloated dev teams and you can notice a difference immediately. Nowadays it's become so corporate that anyone with any passion is shut out and there is nonway to actually try something new. They've made a formula for games now and they stick to it. Just look at the boring open world games ubisodt comes out with now. All the exact same game with different paint. Go to enemy base on huge map defeat enemies now base is green not red! Rinse repeat for 100 hours...
@T3hPwnererАй бұрын
Ironically, the PS2 era is also where gaming finally became truly mainstream and that's what started the modern eras in which most games are just lazy, dull, 13 in a dozen cashcows. With a lot of remakes of, you guessed it, games from the PS2 era. PS1 was peak creativity and PS2 with its DVD player were too big of a success (for "real" gamers) eventually. Seen it all from Atari 2600/NES era until now, 90s and 2000s were the golden age of gaming.

A game that feels so perfect when you learn it that I've put over 60 hours into it when the game is really only a couple hours long or even less when you don't get stuck. I've played every single WOTS series without realizing it that I already fell in love and only realizing it when I saw my crazy amount of playtime in 3 while doing killing Dojima for free sword upgrade runs. Truly, this series just special someone in my heart. Yeah, it isn't my favorite series ever (it belongs to MGS) but it always had a spot in my mind every time we had generation leap in gaming expecting a new game each time. Unfortunately, it's hard to see that we get anything past 4 at this point. Which is sad since 4, while drastically different than the rest, it still fun and perhaps the best in the series in terms of customization and contents.

@zeroattentiongaming8202 жыл бұрын
Onimusha never had such a spin off. The 4th game Dawn of Dreams (or Shin Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in Japan) was a departure but still far closer to Onimusha than anything like DMC. However Genji: Dawn of the Samurai was like a hybrid of both series, is it possible you're thinking of that or the ps3 sequel Days of the Blade? The sequel was that game that was endlessly mocked for having you fight a giant demon crab in what was touted as a historically accurate conflict

A game I really enjoyed that you might like is PS2 Van Helsing, the movie tie-in. The movie is pure fun and the game they did is just an honest to god DMC clone. If you like the general dark gothic/victorian werewolf hunter aesthetic the movie absolutely captured, I 100% recommend it. Don't expect anything super special but it's exactly that obscure 6.5-7/10 serviceable yet fun type of game. Another surprisingly good DMC clone on PS2 is Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge. Once again, a lot of people overlooked it because lol movie tie in.

hey man, cool video! You've definitely convinced me to give that berserk game a go. Just one thing. You CAN sprint and shoot in gungrave. You just have to lock on while doing so. Start by running with circle, then keep L1 pressed down as you run, this will make the red reticule lock onto a nearby enemy. And then shoot :D You're holding down two buttons and repeatedly pressing a third button to shoot but its possible and you get used to it :) Makes Bunji and Bear much easier. Been playing the new gungrave and where it is cool that it just exists in the first place, it has NONE of the charm found in the original.

Honestly believe the combat mechanics in bujingai are ahead of time.
@cerezscypher5492 жыл бұрын
I've played through Bujingai a couple times, I rented it from Blockbuster, and the aspects that are good about it left a lasting impression, even though it has its fair share of problems. So I had a soft spot for it and bought it years later to do a let's play of it. One thing I have to add about it that wasn't mentioned in the video is my single favorite thing about the game; it has a unique mechanic where the time remaining for you to keep your current combo alive only ticks down while you are on the ground. If you're jumping, air dashing, running on walls, your combo numbers won't get any closer to disappearing. The game gives you so many ways to keep yourself off the ground, and you can even stay airborne indefinitely above flat ground with appropriately timed sequences of air-dash - attack - repeat, that it presents you with the thought of "can I maintain my combo through the entire level if I don't take hits and have good movement". It turns the game into "the floor is lava".
