H.R. great presentation. I've seen those Clive scopes on Amazon. I was thinking about getting one. But then I bought a Burris instead. Buying an American scope seems to be the right thing to do in today's economy.

Depending on model, you may only have purchased an imported scope from an American company. Only their more expensive lines are actually US made.

Thanks for your detailed report of this scope. I too noticed the image quality of the low-priced scopes has risen significantly in the last 10-20 years. I think more scopes should at least have a locking windage knob. One advantage of the higher priced scopes is their superior windage and elevation components. I notice the value priced models typically use plastic, brass or aluminum gears which wear over time. The high-priced scopes use steel and their adjustments are very repeatable.

What a complete and useful video. Tons of great information without any bias. It is so easy to buy either a cheap poor performing scope or waste a lot of money for a name brand, a video where you compare less expensive to more expensive is excellent. I look forward to the next installment. Great video.

Very glad you're doing this video. I was a diehard Vortex customer for many year. Bought a mid model scope about a year ago from them an I was extremely disappointed with build quality (was defective out of the box). Sent it back and got one with a completely different reticle in it. Communicated with their customer service and was told, (in lesser words) tough luck buddy, it's the same model.

That’s too bad. I was under the impression that Vortex customer service was pretty good. Maybe I was mistaken.

I really enjoy these reviews when you compare a "cheaper" item to an "expensive" item. If I'm just plinking and your review seemed good so far I don't see any reason why I can't go with the $200 scope. I'm awaiting your complete review but this provides an excellent service to someone like me. Thanks HR! All the best!

That’s true. Still, you could literally buy several of the value priced scopes for less than the more expensive ones. Then you could just replace them if they start to wear out.

Good morning HR. Nice thorough review. I'll watch to see how it performs at the range. The more expensive scopes probably have better glass and coatings for low light performance. They're probably more rugged with more durable controls and better QC. If you're swimming to the beach or doing HALO insertions and constantly ranging targets and adjusting settings those features really matter. If you are like most people going to the club on a nice day and shooting off the bench at 100 or 200 yards this scope should be fine. I saw Paul Harrel's prerecorded announcement of his passing last night. I hope they have a nice range with endless supplies of ammo up there.

Thank you, Howard, for another excellent - thorough, lucid, factual - product review. This scope look quite good - especially for the price - at the “shop review” level. Of course, the impending range review will provide vital information. And (this is always my concern with high value/lower price products, of all sorts) there are also the critical unknowns of durability, reliability and LONG-TERM functionality.
@hrfunk
@hrfunk 13 күн бұрын
My concerns exactly. Although, for the price of these things you could buy several. Then you could just replace them as/if needed. Two or three of them would still be less than a lot of comparable, but more expensive options.

@@hrfunk I completely agree, and I’ve had precisely the same thoughts. Of course, this answers the “financial” elements of this strategy, BUT - and scopes are not really a good example of this issue - the reliability of “value priced” firearms and accessories obviously has be considered. This is why - despite their recent quality improvements - I don’t own any Taurus firearms. Reliability uber alles.

Nice review. The shooting review should be interesting. I'm sure you're aware of the controversy surrounding inexpensive vs expensive scopes and what you get for your money. Should be fun.

Nice review, I've yet to hear anything bad from anyone about these new CV Life scopes. I went a step further in the budget scope realm and got a Monstrum Hornet 6-24×50 that I'm absolutely enjoying! Think it was 179 on Amazon and worth every penny! Scopes have come a far way!
@musek5048
@musek5048 11 күн бұрын
i wonder how they compare to monstrum since those are also good low budget scopes, i wouldn't be surprised if their sourced from similar manufacturers. i have a monstrum banshee lpvo that works great so far but time will tell how reliable it will be.
@chrislang5659
@chrislang5659 11 күн бұрын
@musek5048 so far, I'm really impressed with the Monstrum. I put it on a Glenfield mod 60 to see what happens. Groups shrank 1/2 in. I'll probably get a set of rings for the 7mm-08 to see if it holds up on that application. The turrets match the reticle, that was my big concern. If you don't like your shot placement, measure in the reticle, adjust the turrets, and you're where you want to be!

I'm planning a new rifle purchase in January as a late Christmas present to myself 😀. I was pretty well locked in on a Hawke 4-12 x 40 scope to mount on it, but now I'm wondering if this might be a good choice. It has a slightly greater range of magnification and the prices are within $20 of each other. I'll be watching the following videos with great interest.

I think some of this has to do with if you have ever looked down a 1,500-$2,000 scope or not. If you have ever got to use a really nice/expensive scope,it’s kinda hard to go back. But you can absolutely do most jobs with a cheap scope.as long as it holds zero and doesn’t look like looking through an old Coke bottle. I’ve actually been looking at this exact scope for a 20inch AR,hope it does okay.

Dang just missed the live stream. Great review as always. I love my vortex products not gunna lie. I have 3 of them, they make great prisms and my strike eagle lpvo is fantastic even with the "stock" throw lever..Good sales still exist from time to time. I wish I could get something "proudly American made" but we just don't have anything comparable even close cost/function/durability. It's a strange time with optics something with a sickle and hammer stamped on it is probably better sadly 😂

CVLIfe make a copy of the Sig Sauer Romeo MSR red dot the CVLIFE JackalHowl Red Dot , they must be built from the exact same specs , my son loves his SIg but I got the CVlife and have it on my inline CVA 50 cal inline and it seems to be holding up great about half the price but only a 1 year warranty compared to Sigs 5 year

Call me a fudd but give a plane mildot (even if its milliradian) reticle over the cluttered up christmas tree reticles. Im not shooting at ranges where it would help so just give me clear field of view instead.

I get that, believe me. I strongly suspect that many shooters who own such scopes have no idea of how to use the reticle.

I used generic specs. 35 in/lbs for the cross bolts and 18 in/lbs for the ring caps.
