I just did the CVT change on mine. Both filters. Easiest thing I’ve ever done. What I did notice with the external filter concerning the hidden bolt was all I had to do was put a 10 mm box wrench on it and just crack the pressure. It came off with no problem. What I noticed was on the other three bolts there was a little bit of Loctite. On that hidden bolt, the threads were clean as a whistle and literally just spun right out.

@ I did it at 69k. The fluid was dark , but not as bad as I was expecting. Even when I dropped the pan , the magnets were not that bad at all.

@@TheGarageisFull If you haven't replaced the transfer fluid yet, I'd recommend replacing it.

Additionally, I was expecting three and three-quarter quarts to come out. But I had a little bit more than 1 gallon. I guess with the additional oil from the external filter and the pan filter I also had to put 5 quarts in to get it to come out a little .I was actually getting pretty nervous thinking I did something wrong

If this filler cap is the same as QX50, to remove the filler cap you have to slip a thin flat blade between the metal post and the very thin and shallow plastic latch. You have to be on the inside of the metal and get BETWEEN the two pieces and lift the plastic piece off of the metal.

I'm not familiar with QX50, but it sounds exactly how the dipstick tube cover should be removed. Thank you for watching.

How did you lift the car to gain access while also be level for the excess oil to drain?

I used the ramps for the front, and then raised the rear of the car using a floor jack under the rear differential as a single rear jacking point. Then rested the rear of the car on the jack stands. I placed the level on the front door's bottom door jamb to make sure the car is leveled. If you don't have ramps, you can raise the front of the car using a floor jack under the single jacking point at the front (you can see that location in my another video how to change front brake rotors & pads at around 5:38 min), and then rest the front on the jack stands. Thank you for watching.

Valvoline’s CVT fluid is better than Nissan NS3 and cheaper. The valvoline CVT fluid is full synthetic whereas Nissan NS3 is not.

Yes, NS3 is expensive. It's my personal opinion to use factory CVT fluid when dealing with such delicate CVT. Since only partial fluid replacement is done, I'm not sure how 2 different fluids will react with each other. Possibly, if full fluid replacement is done, it will be safer to use a different CVT fluid. Also, since I'm doing this service ones in few years, I'm willing to pay a little extra for the factory fluid. I'm happy that you found more cost effective alternative. Thank you for watching.

Be aware of transfer case, which is prone to leak.
@Dadsgarageandmore
@Dadsgarageandmore Ай бұрын
Correct. As I pointed in my video, new 18mm aluminum crash washers need to be used for the drain and fill plugs, and they both need to torqued to 26 ftlb. It's always a good practice to check for leaks after any fluid change. Thank you for watching.
